For context, on another post about Steven Tyler from Aerosmith openly stating he finds his underage daughter to be sexually attractive, @weps@lemmy.world said that this actually isn’t weird at all and any father who doesn’t feel the same way doesn’t love his children:

@weps@lemmy.world would you consider incest, rape, and pedophilia to be forced weird sexual stuff?

Yeah makes sense Trump got elected after the Democrats forced every man to suck dick at gunpoint, except for the small detail that nothing like that ever happened.

Remember: Every accusation is a confession with that cult. Humans are not telepathic, so we can’t know what’s in anybody else’s mind. We can only guess at others’ motivations by analogy to what’s in our own heads. So when they hyperventilate about weird, sexual stuff that’s forced on them…

Well, hell, there are enough headlines about it that I think I don’t need to spell out the conclusion here.

Exactly. The people actually forcing weird sex stuff on people are the ones promoting genital inspections of minors, overturning Roe V. Wade, and trying to force women to be some image of a 1950’s “tradwife.”

Here we go again. Liberals getting completely bent out of shape if you don’t use the right words or terms to refer to them. Why is the idea of personal identity so important? They don’t define us. It’s the actions we take. As much internal emotional turmoil you might have gone and be going through trying to decide who you are, it doesn’t matter too much to most other people. They just want you to be a good person.

I didn’t see any anti-trans ballot initiatives; there were a few school sports initiatives, and trans can still compete whenever they’d like.

They just don’t get to pick their team. Like everybody else.

My state passed a ballot measure defining sex as whatever appears on your birth certificate. Not only anti-trans, but ignores intersex people or anyone with an error on their certificate.

Note how they always ignore intersex people, because acknowledging their existence is incompatible with a ridiculous binary worldview

Go away with your weird, annoying passive aggressive conservative bullshit.

I like reality, where trans women can play sports fairly with cis women because every study that relies on measurements (like real grown ups use) shows that trans women should absolutely compete on the womens and trans mens on the mens.

But for me, it’s deeper than that because frankly enbies deserve to play a game. You’re lame for defending stupid sports scholarships and the entire “school sports ecosystem”. These are all childrens games. The fact you talk with so much vitriol about trans people because of a game shows you have USELESS priorities.

        Trans rights are human rights.

        here’s one.

if you can’t see how “forced genital inspections” isn’t blatantly anti-trans i’m not really sure how to help you. this is going to result in the tiny number of transgender girls in sports being kicked or shamed off their teams, while simultaneously making things very uncomfortable for all the cis girls who will also be forced to undergo regular genital inspections. and for what?

the fact that these passed, in supposedly “woke” states, is not only awful in and of itself, but also sets a terrifying precedent for things to come.

But it won’t, because if that’s what anyone involved with this was actually worried about then they would be doing that already during a regular physical exam during which they already take a cheek swab. That doesn’t need a referendum.

This is about trans exclusion and making schoolgirls flip up their skirts for coach. There is no explanation for it that can suggest otherwise.

I have a name that can be for boys or girls. For some reason, most people assume it’s a girl’s name and act accordingly.

When I was a kid, my parents signed me up for basketball. Someone thought it was a mistake for a person with my name to be on the boys team and moved me to the girls team, without telling me or my parents. I will never forget the embarrassment when I showed up to the first practice. I quit on the spot and didn’t play basketball after that.

    I like specifying the pronouns.

tl/dr: kids should learn from older kids. also school kind of sucky

sometimes i feel like before kids turn twenty, if you are more than four years older than them you basically can’t understand them at all. so maybe kids should learn from older kids. except they get put in a world where only other kids exactly their age and adults who don’t understand them at all exist. fuck school is what i’m trying to say. except i learned so many important things in school so fuck me i guess.

I mean, mostly. The amount of right-wing fearmongering before Obama was elected was intense, and after he won, a large portion of the Republican party lost their goddamn minds, convinced it was the end of white people. This led to the Tea Party movement, which fed directly into MAGA.

On a more personal level, Obama mercilessly roasted Trump at the 2011 White House Correspondents’ Dinner, and the notorious slumlord was so monumentally, volcanically pissed-off at being humiliated by a powerful Black man that he became determined to prove he was his better, leading to his presidential ambitions, and courting of the existing Tea Party movement who became his initial base of support. (MAGA is basically TP 2.0.)

The culture-war stuff was red meat for keeping the psychos’ attention, lest they wander off into dumber, less controllable conspiracy theories. But it could have been anything. (Sharia law, Socialism, FEMA camps, White Genocide, Great Replacement, Blood Libel, whatever the Murdochs could get their talking heads to complain about, basically.)

Not even close. Reactionary movements grow when standards of living drop while costs simultaneously rise, especially if the shift is significant. Much of this is usually attributed to weakening energy inputs (or at least a rise in their cost), as energy is foundational to post-industrial societies. Organized movements will latch onto cultural issues like “pronouns” in an attempt to divert blame for the deterioration in living towards an easy exploitable marginal group so that elites avoid things like guillotines. “Pronouns being in emails” is merely incidental and is not even close to how a movement like MAGA started or rose.

There was a lot of legitimate issues with the “woke” movement. Republicans used this as motivation to turn out the vote. Democrats have since chilled out quite a bit. Most didn’t do a 180, but just quit focusing on it.

This win was more a reflection of that than it was legitimizing the “old ways”.

Besides, pronouns never left the emails.

I don’t recall the Democrats ever being so woke that it was a legitimate issue. Random individual people with zero power might have said or looked “cringe,” though, and that was somehow upheld as representative of everything. Virtually all of the backlash to “woke 1” was just memes and Youtube videos usually featuring the same three random nobodies…

…putting words in their mouth, taking them out of context, and holding them as representative of all liberals/leftists.

What was one actual policy position advanced or enacted by the Democratic party that was problematic because it was too woke?

I listen to some podcasts that talk a lot about polling data, and analyze not only how people vote, but why. It’s not political, and just about analysis.

It’s my understanding that there was a backlash to democrats going all in on woke issues. This drove republicans to the polls when they might have been more likely to stay home.

It’s fine to be woke, but let’s just stfu about it. Last thing we need is to encourage republican backlash.

This same thing applied to guns. Democrats talked too much about gun control, which drove Republicans to the polls at massive levels. Now they don’t talk about it, and that’s one less motivation for Republicans.

Edit: I’m not saying republican objections were fair or even honest. Just that it was effective.

I asked for a specific policy, not vague allusions to “going all in on woke issues.”

If you’re focusing on rhetoric rather than policy, then fine, provide me some actual, specific examples of that rhetoric.

Relying on vague perceptions and imperfect memories is just bullshit. How I remember it is very different from what you’re saying.
