You also get quietly whisked off to a prison that isn’t a prison where you are charged as a terrorist.

I would like to see power in the hands of the people, but using technology to do it is really risky. You have to be extremely good at covering your tracks or you’re fucked.

A lot of stuff what billionaires are doing shouldn’t be swept under personal privacy.

“Don’t bug me, it’s my own business how I spend my money”, some would say. For random people, that’s true. But when you command absurd amounts of wealth, maybe all of that stuff has consequences to the rest of the society.

We demand transparency from people who have power over our lives, and oligarchs shouldn’t be an exception to that rule.

At least in this case “doxxing” could restore an asymmetry: Billionaires own the major internet platforms, they already know a good portion about a big number of people. It’s just not called doxxing.

Is your point supposed to be a critique of removing billionaire privacy on anti-“an eye for an eye” grounds? It’s not revenge or retaliation. It’s parity. If they can put us in a surveillance state, they should be spied on too. Why would we take the moral high road over the people trying to kill the planet for profit? Fuck 'em.

This is vigilantism. When the official authorities don’t seek justice, vigilantes often pop up. I may disagree with their methods, but I think the fault lies with these oligarchs for courting the injustice.

It’s encouraging vigilantism, but I wouldn’t call it vigilante work directly. I agree with the overall sentiment though: When we consider the Four Boxes of Liberty, the billionaires have already done everything they can to nullify the soap box, ballot box, and jury box. All that’s left after that is the ammo box.

Short sighted goals by people who don’t understand billionaires. What do they plan to accomplish with this? A billionaire could pay off someone’s $500,000 mortgage, their $30,000 car, pay off $50,000, give them $100,000 in cash and forget about it the next day. That’s $680,000 in a single day which would only be 0.06% of their wealth. Dox them all you want. They will alight about it when they exchange stories.

This is actually why I think we should bring back the old tradition of pieing corrupt politicians and public figures. The humiliation is only half of the message. The other half of the message is “this could have been a weapon, and you only continue to live because I chose a pie instead. Your security needs to win every time, but we only need to touch you once.”

They could, but they won’t, and that’s part of the problem.

If billionaires walked around clearing people’s mortgages and paying for everyone’s dinner, they’d be less hated. They’d still be a problem, but they could buy popularity.

But they don’t. Because they’re assholes.

Maybe this will scare some of them into changing the behavior. Maybe it will get some of them killed.

I always figured it was a reference to the “birds work for the government” joke. That, or because birds tend to perch up on traffic lights and watch the traffic passing below. Or something about safety in numbers, because Flock’s biggest selling point is that after they hit a certain number of strategically placed cameras, avoiding them becomes nearly impossible.

they can, the oligarch always used to push people away. forcing other people to do their bidding. by doxxing them it makes them feel vulnerable, annoyed or at very least hassled by it. thats the point.

Okay, but what is real inconvenience for a billionaire? Some gossip? They can handle it. Does not change the system. A large-scale successful strike of their workers could hurt them more. Maybe juicy doxxing can nudge to workers turning against their billionaires?
