I remember in second grade one of those handouts that you were supposed to follow the instructions of, with the first instruction being “read all instructions carefully before you do anything” followed by 18 increasingly ridiculous activities, and the last one being “ignore 2-18, turn this paper over, and sit quietly.”
I was one of three kids that actually read the first instruction and followed it all the way down to the bottom. Everybody else looked like idiots LOL.
Still better than holding up my math quiz (after being the first to hand it in) and dead-ass asking “What is this?” in front of the whole class.
Had a teacher go through the tests, held up one of a class mate and announced “this is the worst I’ve ever seen”. A few pages later she holds up mine with “oh, this is even worse”. 😒
Taking one for your mate. Without even a cape.
🤣
I remember my math teacher leaving a remark under my test that read “Your chaotic and unorganized way of working is not to your benefit.”
Oh yeah? Then why am I lurching through life to survive through sheer force of will!?
I’m well aware but it’s not a choice that i make and you would find it is documented in my IEP plan, had you read it.
“I award you no points, and my god have mercy on your soul.”
Man, Adam Sandler was on such a heater in the 90’s. This is easily my favorite line from any of his movies though.
Jokes on them, my god has no mercy.
Having both been that student and eventually that teacher*, I can say they are entirely correct in saying that. Now I am much more organized and it really does help. I do have to put more thought and effort in before starting to keep myself organized, but it makes a world of difference. I don’t know what, if anything, someone could’ve told me at the time to get me organized, but looking back it would’ve done me much more good to get in the habit younger.
I feel like there is a much more helpful and kind way of making that point
ooooooof
I do not miss one thing about school
Hey! Another space animal!
You will when you’re 24 with a shitty retail job and no friends…
wrong! That does suck but it’s way better than school!
I’m 31 with no friends and worked a shitty retail job for 11 years (I don’t anymore cause the place shut down so now I work at a slaughterhouse). I have never once missed school. You couldn’t pay me to go back there.
I’m just saying, in school you still had your whole life ahead of you, including your 20s
Everything was fun and exciting. The consequences of forgetting stuff or messing up weren’t as bad. You weren’t forced to work with anyone. Making friends was much easier. There were clubs and activities
Dunno man, I don’t want to be contrariant, but it just sounds like you were privileged enough to think that way now.
I was poor, I didn’t really get to go clubs or extra activities besides classes, neither did I made any lasting friendships.
Now I’m in my 30s and I’m living my best life. I have a job I can enjoy, enough money and a loving partner. Never have I thought that it would be nice to go back to school. Hell, I haven’t had contact with anyone from school since it ended.
I do have some fond and grateful memories of some teachers. I think about them from time to time, but I don’t really miss any of it.
Also, I’m from a country that has decent enough public school system.I could say the same for your point, since you clearly have the freedom to work at a job that you enjoy
It’s all relative to how privileged you were in school vs how privileged you are in your job market
Oh, yeah! I went up big time. Not own property up, but live well up.
(X) Doubt
(I’m beyond that age but the reference is better than saying ‘ha, incorrect’)
I’m 40 and close to retiring. Ha
Facts
I just did this last week during an Exam. We do want to help the student out sometimes, but it will be against the rules.
one of the few perks a teacher has:
messing with kids’ mindsand this one is good for ’em
No dark sarcasms in the classroom
They used to get physical abuse too but now they just have to settle for light emotional
MAYBE the teacher had been getting more and more unsure of themself as they walked around realizing everyone else was doing it wrong, until they got to you who had read it correctly and gotten the right answer, using the correct method. So they now knew their exam was written fine but the others had made wrong assumptions instead of reading carefully.
I did say maybe.
maybe
You’re gonna be the one that saves me
and afterrr aaaalllll
Lol, once had a teacher look over my shoulder at my exam and sit down and try to help me. Then the following lecture have him declare to the class that he was frustrated that “one student” couldn’t even yada yada.
“but teacher, why are you referring to yourself as a student?”
Or when they see a student changing an answer and tells the class to go with their first instinct.
The twist was that you were doing it right. But now your confidence is shattered.
I had a teacher who used to hand out test results starting from the lowest grade and before handing them out he used to look across the room like a shark in a paddling pool.
I have to remember that one for exam season to mess with students.
