My truck doesn’t have working heat and never had AC, and I will never stop driving that POS.
It’s not about temperature, it’s about condensation and humidity. Turn on the AC regardless of temp (e.g. even if it’s cooler out and you’re blasting the heat) and the defog too.

It’s not really about the borders per se, but it is about territory. Russians feel they need land (specifically railroad) access to the Sevastopol naval base in Crimea. Russia itself doesn’t have any warm water ports—they all freeze in the winter. So, during the Soviet Union, the Crimean peninsula was developed as an international port and naval base. The infrastructure was built with taxes from all the Soviet citizens, including a lot of Russians, under the assumption that Russia, as part of the Soviet Union, would have access to that port in perpetuity. As a result, some Russians feel ownership over this naval base, even though it’s deep in Ukrainian territory.
I don’t think Putin really cares about the Donbas much, except that it can be territory to protect access to the port. It is about borders, but it’s not quite as arbitrary as you say.
Russian strategic anxiety about not having a warm water port is quite literally older than America. This is some Peter the Great-era (early 1700’s) shit. I’m not excusing any of it, but I rarely hear anyone talk about this stuff in the English language media even though it’s like. The primary reason for the war.
EDIT: do the people downvoting me think Putin cares about the Russian speaking people in Donbas or something? This war is about strategic access to trade routes, not some territory and civilians.
This post and the one you’re responding to are basically restating the screenshot in the OP, and you’re the person who’s being unpleasant.
These laws harm more they help and you’ve provided several examples in your post, you just apparently don’t see them.

Seems highly arbitrary. I always think about how early airplane tech was almost all developed in Europe because no one in America could work on anything adjacent after the Wright Bros patented their flyer. Intellectual property is intellectual theft.

Political scientists estimate there are about 8 million consistently-Democratic voters in Texas and 6 million consistently-Republican voters. Out of a population of 30 million where everyone else flip flops and/or doesn’t vote.
The only reason the Republicans ever win in Texas is due to voter suppression/gerrymandering.
This is consistent with national estimates that there are roughly 1.5x as many Democrats as Republicans in the USA.
The only reason the Republicans ever win anywhere is due to voter suppression/gerrymandering.

And even if you could somehow accidentally fire a gun, that’s the definition of manslaughter anyway, so the guy is still guilty either way.

I think they call that negligence, not an accident.

So, like, everyone currently deployed in the military?

So if people can’t mail in ballots, what about US citizens living abroad?

I think the warning labels are aimed at the parents of the kids too young to read, not the kids themselves.

You can order fries with gravy and cheese at most diners in America (even if you have to go off-menu, anywhere that has both fries and biscuits ‘n’ gravy could do it). Sometimes known as disco fries
Not exactly poutine, but close enough when no fresh curds are available.

You do not “really gotta hand it to ISIS” moment

They were nicknamed the “ice cream ships” because they had refrigerated holds and freezers, but in reality they moved all kinds of food and perishable supplies, a lot more than just ice cream.
The USN was no doubt very good at logistics in the 40’s, but they didn’t have so much excess capacity they could dedicate entire ships to ice cream.
I’ll never forget the day that primary happened. I worked right next to an NYC polling place. All day we had Bernie voters coming in complaining about how their voter registration had been mysteriously deleted, or had been changed back to an old address they had 9 years before, or some ridiculous shit like that. Believe whatever you want, but that election was shady as hell.
I honestly wasn’t super political before that, I barely knew who Sanders was, so it wasn’t like I had been following the primary election.
Yes. Trump got fewer votes in 2016 than Romney did in 2012. If everyone who voted for Obama had showed up to vote for Clinton, Trump never would have won. I think it’s fair to say that Clinton lost that election more than Trump won it.
Trump isn’t very popular, and never has been. He got like 20% of eligible voters in '24. The Dems merely keep running even less popular candidates. Their entire platform in '24 was “hey at least we’re not that guy” and they still didn’t manage to distinguish themselves from him enough. Fundamentally, both the Dems and Reps are super out of touch with American voters as we actually exist. I think the Dems and Reps are far more similar to each other than they are to what most people in this country actually want.

I am 100% fine with being left behind by a technology that I see as an attempted corporate surveillance scheme that has metastasized into a giant money pit. The difference from the 80’s and 90’s is people were actually using computers to make money back then. If any AI company is actually making more money than they’re spending, I haven’t heard about it, and you’d think they’d be advertising it. https://isaiprofitable.com/
I’ve been happy to fully sit this one out thus far. Don’t feel like I’m missing a damn thing.

I absolutely take Luddite as a compliment, the historical Luddites were cool as hell. And with the benefit of hindsight, we now know their predictions were basically correct about increasing automation leading to lower quality products and more alienated lifestyles.
Also, I know enough about finance to know that if these computers cost more money to keep on than they bring in (which they do) they won’t be around long-term.
If he has a clean record then why did they kidnap him in the first place?
