There’s actually an interesting reason behind this. Initially you see it and might think the fact that he’s disguised as an alligator makes the real alligator hesitant to attack. However, alligators do attack members of their own species so that can’t be the only explanation. So what are we seeing here? It’s actually quite simple. In reality he could have used any sort of cover to protect himself. Alligators with their fierce jaws and powerful tails for all intents and purposes can be categorized as monsters and as such cannot get to you under the blanket.

Can not get to you under the blanket

      Good point.

There actually an interesting reason behind this.

And here’s the real one, if anyone is interested. Alligators are ambush predators, and they don’t do very well with twisting. They’re designed to go forwards, and boy oh boy do the GO FORWARDS. So, poking at it’s side actually does make it hesitant because it is afraid that whatever is touching it over there is just as fast as it is. However, whatever is over there touching it’s side doesn’t have to twist, whereas it would. Therefore, it sits still and hopes that you either get in front of it, pass over it, or at least be swift.

You know, I’ve seen this meme so many times in many places and only on lemmy have I seen some kind of a breakdown on why.

        God I love lemmy

I’ve seen these type of breakdowns before, they usually started with:

          “Undian Here!”

…but then shit happened and the Internet became less fun. I hope Lemmy never gets to that point because I love it here, too!

Ever see that horrifying video where one gator just straight up bites and death-rolls right off with another gator’s foot? Anyway, this video seems like a fun idea.

That video is of salt water crocodiles. They’re a fair bit more aggressive than Alligators.

I remember the way the victim crocodile just kinda sits there like, “huh. Guess I’m missing a foot now”

            Sorry for the TMI

That video helped me understand my own mortality. I recognized that “huh, I guess I’m fucked” look from how my mom reacted when her cancer came back and it suddenly clicked that anything can happen to anyone at any time. This was several years after she died, but somehow it still hadn’t occurred to me.

What’s up with Stake putting their ads on so many viral videos? It’s a good idea for advertising, but horrible for content reposting.

    Gamble responsibly.

Also, I see we’re still doing random music in this kind of video to punish people who have the volume up.
