This is the 800ml server from Hario. I make 600g water / 30-35g coffee in it every morning.
I drink my coffee slowly, and really like it hot. When I made a single 300g cup of coffee, I’d time my consumption wrong and it would be lukewarm before I finished. I didnt necessarily mind this, but now that I’ve been using this server I get hot coffee on demand, very conveniently.
I downsized my regular mug for a teacup, so I always get just enough hot coffee to sip and enjoy before it loses too much temp. So now I drink a lot of small teacups worth instead of a regular mug. I recommend you try this style of serving coffee and see if its for you.
Bonus: this has been so helpful when making for multiple people, since I dont always know when others wake up or come downstairs. Since its a huge insulated server I never worry about not being able to serve my roommates hot coffee.
Bonus pic with my teacup
Thank you for pointing this out, wasn’t aware of it. I’m a V60 convert as of a year ago & this looks like a good upgrade to my near daily setup.
I still sometimes have trouble getting the right balance of sour/bitter ratio. What technique do you all prefer with the V60?
I’d love this thread, maybe make a dedicated post?
I agree with the other commenter, your question is more likely to be seen by enough people for you to get helpful answers if you post it separately (especially since lemmy is small and the coffee community is a very small subset of that) but thats a great question and I’d be curious to see folks’ recommendations if you do end up making a post about it :)
I’m not very coffee knowledgeable myself so I don’t know that I could give a helpful answer, but I wish you well with figuring it out!
I have the same one.
I wake up most mornings and make a pour over and have a cup and go to work.
When my partner wakes up an hour later it’s still nice and hot.
This is exactly how I enjoy my coffee too. I use a double walled glass carafe from fellow that works pretty well too, and is a bit easier to clean as the lid is much simpler.
The lid on this one is a little complicated. Lots of crevices so its hard to clean, and it can be difficult to pour too. Near the end I nearly have to turn it upside down to get the rest out.
Yea that’s exactly how my last metal carafe was!
I always take the lid off for the last pour, seems to get round that issue.
I hope you’re running linux on this server
I use nixos btw
Admittedly I love my stupid and overpriced Ember mug
Same here. I feel like I need to specify I got it as a gift whenever I mention it (I still feel weird that I have that costly of a mug) but it’s been great for me.
My only complaint is the Bluetooth is a bit spotty. But I almost always use it for coffee so I don’t need to change temps much.
it’s stupid and expensive but it really makes a difference!
This is awesome, great find! I’m the exact same as you; 600g of coffee over multiple small cups but I find it gets cold too quickly. For anyone looking, the server is the https://www.hario-europe.com/products/hario-v60-heat-retaining-stainless-server-800
Wow the price has gone up.
I bought mine a year ago for 55 CAD bucks on Amazon.
Boy this could fix my main problem with the Chemex.
This thread is funny to read as someone who’s gonna inherit his grandmas Alfi one day
I had similar experience, but I opted for Zojirushi insulated glass carafe.

I bought the 600ml version .
Basically similar, but the inside is made of glass. IMO, less reactive with coffee.
Keeps the coffee really hot for hours too 👍
I usually drink my coffee at my desk so I use a mug warmer set to about 150F. Keeps it in the perfect sipping temperature for the whole morning.
Oh I’ve been interested in a mug warmer too. Do you have recommendations?
Why are hario products so cute? Like its such a simple carafe but its pretty, and I want one. I don’t even drink pour over coffee- I have no need for an insulated carafe, all I drink right now is iced mocha from aldi lol 😅 but I want one
Im surprised that people apparently don’t use thermos carafes. I grew up in a household using this every morning. I switched to espresso so I have no use for this but it’s very convenient.
Yeah this one surprised me a lot…like, this is the most basic coffee accessory i can even think of, it’s so common here that even people that don’t give a crap about their coffee quality have one.
Thanks for sharing! I recently picked up a Hario glass insulated server and my coffee gets cold before I finish it.
Can you take the lid off and fit an Aeropress XL on top?
