lbs is from libra, the Latin word for “scale”. oz is from onza, the Spanish ounce.

Big Mac uses 1/8 lb patties. I would wager they are closer to 1/3 or 3/8 of a pound
They are referred to a 10:1 patties, so 1/10 of a pound each.
When I worked there, in the late '90s and early '00s, they were 8:1. Damn they literally shrunk the patties.
