Absolutely for the taste. I don’t bother with alcoholic drinks unless they are delicious. Water is a lovely accompaniment to any food. But yes a wine that aligns with the food can make both more than the sum of the parts, and liquors can make cocktails amazing & complex tasting instead of just being fruit punch or soda.
I do like a light buzz for a short time -any more than that I don’t enjoy.
There are also many types of cheese othe than cheddar and mozzarella!
You’re welcome.
If it doesn’t come from Somerset, it’s just sprinkling yellow cheese…
And here come the teetotalers
You ain’t kidding.
You have had more than 100 dinners total.
100% for the taste. If I never felt the effects of alcohol ever again I’d be thrilled. My local grocer makes house-brand non-alc beer and I drink a fuck ton of that shit just because its actually good. Food Basics’ ‘Selections’ brand Blonde Lager if anyone is wondering.
The NA Guinness is delicious
I enjoy Asahi
Linux0.0% non-alcoholic “super dry” beer.
Every so often I’m reminded that alcohol really is a thing that exists and I end up going through the mental loop of processing that people actually do drink poison recreationally and that it’s not just some omnipresent fiction trope.
I bet you like relaxing next to a nice fire, even though we objectively know that wood smoke causes great harm to us.
not really big on fires actually. Indoors they make the air too smoky and just seem obsolete for the purpose, and I dont really enjoy being outside enough to want to do camping or such like that would necessitate an outdoor fire.
That being said, sugar is also harmful and I do have a sweet tooth- its not that the thing is harmful that bothers me per se so much as the degree and obviousness of the harm. Even if I was to enjoy being around a fire, the effect from campfire smoke is slow and non-obvious, it doesnt literally make you watch your friends act temporarily brain damaged while theyre in the area of effect, and its the anxiety over if friends taking it will cause themselves harm, and the existential horror of contemplating reducing one’s own mental functioning on purpose, that really emphasizes to me the toxicity alcohol has.
People like to get high. Normal thing to enjoy mind altering substances, despite the best efforts of abolitionists.
Is poison and tastes like it. I’m glad I find it disgusting because it would be really appealing otherwise.
All drugs are some dose of poison, and alot of them are real fun.
Also, animals do it too. We all out here consumin’ dubious libations.
Wait until you hear about drugs
A number of drugs that are considered illegal in a large percent of the world do less damage to your body than alcohol, and at reasonable dosages have proven to have positive effects.
There have been a number of more recent studies disproving the previous myths of alcohol ever having a positive effect.
Well I’m convinced. Time to score some meth
They mentioned drugs
Somehow most of the things that we label “drugs” (like illegal stuff not like prescriptions) don’t throw me for quite the same mental loop, because I’m not legally and socially permitted to just buy those if I felt like it the way I could with alcohol. It feels less jarring to be reminded of an aspect of society that you’ve opted not to participate in to the point of it’s existence slipping one’s mind, if that thing isn’t made conveniently available in the first place
Yea, alcohol is way worse for you by leagues than weed or shrooms. Those are arguably healthy for you in limited quantities, but not booze, yet that’s the one that’s legal?? If there was ever an obvious sign that our politicians do not have anyones’ best interests in mind… It baffles me how fucking braindead Republicans support the war on drugs. They truly are vile creatures.
They’re not braindead; they’re making money. They got the war on drugs hooked up just the way they want it.
Doing the right thing is perfectly possible and perfectly easy until there’s a financial incentive for it to not be possible or easy.
Or capsaicin.
I used to occasionally drink in order to annihilate all my bad thoughts. The peace and quiet was nice. (The mornings after however…)
