There was a brief time when Tommy Chong was on a band under the name “4 N*'s and a C*,” and every now and again I remember that fact and think “What the actual fuck was he thinking.”

Well no, what’s happening to you is also because of the general culture of overmedication. If there were less false positives, people wouldn’t distrust your diagnosis. If anything, I’d argue the current culture hurts the people who have serious issues more than the people who have been given a shoddy diagnosis in order to peddle drugs, but both sides are pretty rough.
One of my friends actually does this as a side-gig. She’s a very experienced DM for many different game systems, and I’d say consistently offers a great experience. She mostly gets hired to do events though, like running tables for MagicCon or the local queer tabletop society. I’ve never personally heard of someone like posting up at a lgs and offering to DM for strangers in exchange for money, but sounds fine to me. DMing is a lot of hard work, there’s absolutely no incentive to be good at it for strangers, and demand for super casual but professionally led tabletop experiences seems to be at an all time high. You’re still allowed to do things the traditional way and have a friend DM for your group, this is just an option for the tourists who want to spend an afternoon together having a TTRPG experience.
that’s why you communicate via radio waves to other life in the area and build a network
I’m wondering if there’s any way I can pass myself off as too gay to serve without getting slaughtered by the regime
probably won’t be able to find out how your own brain is structured without getting a scan, but your local university neuroscience lab might be interested in a free test subject and would give you a scan in exchange for studying your brain.
it’s a bit of a “chicken and egg” problem, but yes studies show that conservatives typically have an overactive amygdala. now, is it overactive because they’re conservative, or are they conservative because it’s overactive? hard to say.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's the best pizza you've ever had?English
5·2 months agoI dunno if it was the best, but the pizza that lives in my memory was a whopping 24" pizza from a local place. That’s over 450 square inches of 'za, or 11 square meters for the Europeans.
It was glorious, and took four incredibly high stoners about a day and a half to work through.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What are your views on homeschooling?English
36·3 months agoI’m talking from a US perspective, but I work in an education adjacent field that reviews a lot of homeschool student’s academic records from across the country. IMO, there are two types of homeschoolers. There’s the students who are truly brilliant living in a part of the country that doesn’t value education, and they’re practically forced into homeschooling (or a popular online program like Stanford Online High School) in order to receive an actual education that could challenge them. They do get less socialization than their traditional schooled peers, but they’d get mercilessly bullied at a traditional school so it’s hard to say how much value that socialization has.
The other type are the religious fundies. I have even more hands-on experience with this style, as some of my cousins were homeschooled in this manner. IMO, this shit should be illegal. It’s accepted because someone is typically monitoring these students’ academic progress, but I can say with confidence that Republican states are letting a lot of shit slide. It’s religious indoctrination at a level beyond what you would even find at a religious private school. Typically, these students are better socialized than the other homeschool students, though with the caveat that all their socialization happens in religious settings.

2·3 months agothe issue is that it seems quite likely that humanity will always have a subset of the population that lords over the rest of them, and that subset has a vested interest in keeping tribalism alive.
Sure, you can be an optimist and dream of a future that is radically different to how human culture has existed in recorded history, but the realistic expectation is that the widespread education that would need to take place just…won’t.

3·4 months agoGamecube-PS2-Xbox 360 Era. It was a time when game developmental costs had come down a bit, the demand for games was pretty steady, and the market wasn’t oversaturated. It allowed AAA devs to make some big creative swings and return a steady profit.
There’s a lot of different genres that are popular today where you can point to a game from that era as the progenitor. Stuff like Resident Evil 4 for the third person action shooter, Devil May Cry for spectacle RPGs, Katamari Damacy and Pikmin for uh…whatever the hell they are.
I don’t think AAA has ever been as creative as they were during that period. For over a decade now, pretty much all creativity in games has come from indies, with AAA being comprised of copycats.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Those who've switched to Linux in the last year, how is it going?English
3·4 months agoBeen pretty good. swapped over to Bazzite, which does just about everything I need for a daily driver. Only real annoyance is my VPN. I haven’t been able to successfully connect through the openvpn configs that PIA provides, so I’ve been setting it up through terminal every time I log in. I think if I really sat down I could set it up to autologin, but it only “costs” me like 30 seconds and sometimes I like to connect to a server that allows port forwarding instead of a non-PF closer server. I also like getting to make the choice of which server I connect to vs autologging in to the lowest latency server.
I still have to use Windows 11 for work though, and holy shit do I prefer running two commands in terminal when I login to dealing with all the dumb fuckin bloat that OS has when I go home.
