New? We are 1 year away from it’s 20 year anniversary
YouTube today isn’t the YouTube 20 years ago.
Mostly garbage with the occasional music video?
…mostly commercials and bottom-feeder infomercials…
OP is probably thinking about the original 1980s MTV. Not the current MTV.
I must admit it’s great to be able to set up a playlist of the music videos I grew up with and set it to random play.
“remember when MTV played music?” - every graduating high school student ever remembering mtv from their 8th grade
why, is it about to be supplanted with something for its aging audience called TuberVids1 ?
🎵 Pop-up Video! 🎵
Shower thoughts don’t really need to be insightful or accurate.
Exactly. The entertainment value of it is very similar to the early MTV. When you find the right creators for you it’s very rewarding.
And on top of that for me YouTube’s music recommendations are always spot on. Sometimes it insists that I check a music video on the landing page. Every time showing me the same thing. And most of the times it turns out to be a very good discovery. So it’s a very good medium to discover new music. Funny enough, YouTube Music’s recommendations are always sub-par.
Remember when MTV first started and didnt have adds and only player music vidsos?
MTV launched on August 1, 1981 accompanying its opening trailer with its now-famous signature guitar riff, and closing with a fading shot of an Astronaut as he plants a flag bearing the MTV logo on the Moon.
Facts! Now you know this. No backsies.
The first video was “Video Killed the Radio Star.”
And the last one was “The radio star killed the video”.
YouTube is the new TV
It’s better tbh. There’s so many brilliant music videos out there these days that youtube premium is our main TV app. My favorite music subscription by far.
I just wish Youtube took advantage of this and invested into reviving some older MVs in higher quality and support music videos better through the app itself.
Were there music videos at first, but now it’s all reality programming?
