I’ve cancelled my subscription yesterday, conveniently it was about to renew at the end of the week, so I have a few days to migrate from Proton, here’s what I’m thinking of, but I’d love to hear what other people are switching to

Mailbox has Drive/Office and Meet included. VPN is undoubtedly Mullvad. Yes their CEO is a fascist but none of them are perfect. Mullvad is as close as it gets.

If you ever wanted to Cake Wallet is pretty much the gold standard for mobile crypto wallets.

“None are perfect” is typically used to mean they each have imperfections but are otherwise a good choice. The CEO being a fascist is such a large red flag that aircraft need to divert around it.

Any reason not to use ivpn or airvpn? ivpn in particular seemed very privacy-focused with a pricing structure similar to mullvad when I looked at their website.

I kept seeing ppl talk about it but never looked into it, apparently he wrote a blog post about why he did it. It was an interesting read actually, in his words was it about activism and not about the party, he wanted to protest and that party happened to be the tactical one. He sounds like an anarchist in the post which surprised me a lot. But I still think it was stupid of him and my mixed feelings for mullvad is still there.

My take away from those two is that he is a mix of a liberal, capitalist but heavy/mostly leaning anarchist. He has very strong views about freedom, does not trust humans with taking care of themselves or others and he do not want governance and think the internet is the perfect example.

One beautiful example of anarchic organization (but in a limited domain) is the internet. The internet is not run by a company. No government is in charge over it. It’s a lot of entities connecting their networks together for mutual benefit. Individuals, businesses, universities and non-profits build and propose standards and protocols. The others adopt them or not based on merit, reputation or practical considerations. The whole vast system, comprising a significant chunk of global GDP, and being essential to the functioning of almost everything, is running on decentralized, organic, bottom-up, voluntary anarchy.

I mean, reading the lead up to your quote where you have wild statements and weird framing like below, it’s clear to me where they lean and I’d rather not meddle with such a person

The default for biological organisms is to exploit other organisms if they can get away with it. Most commonly by simply eating them.

A particularly pernicious form of power is collectivist power: power over individuals in groups exerted by other individuals in groups.

Combining power with collectivism means death and disaster. […] The more collectivist and centralized a society is, the worse for its individuals.

Unlike collectivism, where humanity has tried extreme totalitarianism many times

Anarchy. Literally ”no ruler”. Where people do not use violence to exert power over others. Where interpersonal interactions are voluntary. Where people join collectives by choice. That is, where individuals are sovereign.

Yes definitely, I have been on your side all along on that part. It was a wild ride reading it all. I thought you only wanted to talk about the political part of it. Not his very rambling weird and bias view on the world where he only points to things that can kind of be used as examples but are very weird examples, like the ones you picked. I would not work for him and I am not his customer.
