If someone tried to call a jazz band classical, I’d be similarly annoyed with them. It’s not metal because it doesn’t have any of the hallmarks of the genre and doesn’t sound like metal. And no, that doesn’t mean they’re doing something new and groundbreaking. It means they’re calling themselves the wrong thing.
Now hold up. I like Ghost a lot, and play it regularly, but it’s just not metal. It’s great music, but not all great music is metal, just like nok all metal is great. It’s rock. There’s nothing wrong with it being rock. It doesn’t make you less of a man, or less hardcore to like rock.
Love Ghost! Not my favorite, which is probably Gloryhammer, but still top five.
