You gotta try and remember this constantly when dealing with small children. They have zero context and see everything for the first time. What really hammered this home for me was learning that they take a few weeks to learn that the things flailing about in their field of vision are their arms and then they take some more time to learn that they can control them.

It’s like getting dropped in the most complex game where every key on the keyboard is used thrice, nothing is explained and you don’t even know where the keyboard is or where to plug it in.
