Utterly absurd, and yet we know this with far more certainty than the most well subscribed religions know anything. There are so laughably unimaginative too compared to this reality. And yet, the knowing is also a burden. 😅

This shit gives me existential dread and hope.
Like the complexity of cells might as well be an alien civilization, but all that somehow results in something that it’s like to be me. That’s so fundamentally mysterious, all I can do is conclude that consciousness has to be the prior of the universe. So on the one hand I’m nothing, and on the other, maybe I’m immortal. I won’t know until I’m dead.

Your welcome.
Mine emails me an attachment with the recording. It’s a lot easier than the old call up voicemail to listen to your messages etc. Lot of people prefer it to writing with their phones.
Get the fuck out of Ukraine and things will stop. It’s not hard.
That “spark” is whatever consciousness is in the end I think. Everything else is subject to direct inspection and can be found to be deterministic or emergent, not actually subject to any kind of “will”. I speak also from insights gained while meditating (or doing psychedelics 🤗)
Daily life is what daily life is all about.
I do think I’d potentially be happier with a partner who I could speak philosophy and politics with, but if we couldn’t also function simply navigating running a household and raising our family, then we really couldn’t be anything more than friends with benefits long term. Not that that would be a bad thing. It just depends on how you want to live your life, and whether you value a stable partnership over firey romance.
Some people are lucky enough to have a partner that fulfills the entirety of their intellectual, intimate, familial and financial needs, but such people are few and far between I’m sure!
And that’s great so long as it’s a source of comfort and not dread. The fear of God and hellfire is real. We need people who carry faiths to recognize that this is by definition an uncertainty for which no real evidence exists, when it comes to consequences in the real world. Maybe that’s a contradiction to some, but it doesn’t need to be.
Nonsense. I don’t believe in any divine entity, which is the definition of theism. Moreover, my “faith” isn’t predicated on any actions in the world. It’s a musing about the universe. A hopeful fantasy that I think is worth wanting. But it’s not a gospel for how you ought to live in the world. That’s why organised religions are a toxic force in the world overall, and we should never shy away from criticising them.
Thing is it shouldn’t be comforting to anyone if they really take the details seriously. You could do as much damage really educating someone about Deuteronomy and other fun parts of the Bible and ultimately leave them in a worse state than finding a way to make them an atheist.
We forget an atheist is just a non-theist. Someone who doesn’t believe in any specific canonical god. I’m an atheist with a genuine faith the universe has more in store for “me” (whatever that is; I don’t believe it’s necessarily or eternally “ynthrepic”) than a mere human lifetime given what we know about the universe as a whole and how mysterious and seemingly fundamental consciousness is to it all. That gives me some relief and comfort from the existential dread. More than I could possibly get from Yahweh and his totally uncompelling biblical heaven and hell dynamic.
Was not expecting Elon Musk.
She is great in the books. One of the most unique characters in fiction imho. CDProjekt did really well adapting the continuation of her story in the games.
It’s one of the few things where most of the world fights without anybody dying. We need way more things like the Olympics to remind us we are all part of the same species sharing a collective space ship Earth.
You speak like there is sauce somewhere. Just making an observation based on the meaning of your words. Not actually asking for myself. Maybe a friend.
What do you understand about the economic system? For example, how the money supply is created, and the ramifications of “interest” and “inflation”. What you’ll find if you do, is that the system is fundamentally broken if your goal is sustainability on this planet for any serious length of time.
Most of the current world order couldn’t care less, clearly or we’d have done things about climate change that weren’t just technical advancements buying us time if making any difference whatsoever.
Real austerity for the wealthy could pay for solving most of the world’s issues, several times over. And we have the resources to do it globally. It shouldn’t be a matter of “cost”.
But it’ll probably never happen, unfortunately.
We’re not disagreeing then. I’m just saying some date lines aren’t in the right place in general, but what really matters most? What are our priorities? I don’t think most light and most dark is better, even if it were possible to get every time zone just right.
I feel like having a life, and kids being able to play for longer after school without it being dark throughout the summer is pretty awesome.
It’s that or have school and work finish earlier. I’m all for that, lol.
Correct. You must be the rogue.
