  • Steam Machines flopped for a whole bunch of reasons. Many of those have been fixed over the intervening years. Consoles are now all basically PCs, and the market leader runs a variant of BSD (iirc). That makes native Linux gaming a much easier thing to pull off. Then, there’s Proton which is apparently basically some kind of black magic where Windows games can run better under Linux than under Windows. There’s also much better peripheral device support than there used to be. Valve has also created a basically fixed platform with the Steamdeck (and its AMD-basef competition), meaning developers have a defined set of features they can target for a good experience.

I’m here for this. If they can overcome the Nvidia issues, I’ll just stick my gaming rig in my loungeroom and build something smaller and cooler for my main workstation…

  • As a slight tangent, I recently got an electric moped. It has a maximum speed of 48kph, and the speed limit on my route to work and back every day is 50kph.

I bet that if we made a Venn diagram of all the people that say “I’d respect cyclists of they were forced to be registered with number plates and insurance” and the people that insist on overtaking me in single-lane suburban streets because I’m going 2kph below the limit, it would just be a perfect circle.

  • I really, really wish we could degender “guy” and “guys”. I know plenty of people of all genders that use the words in general to describe people, objects, concepts, everything. The only holdouts are people that insist on it specifically meaning males. Ironically, these people are often the hardcore feminists.

If other English words can change their meanings and be claimed/reclaimed by certain groups, why can’t others?

Take guy! Use it to describe whatever you want! Free it of its historically phallic shackles!
