  • Yeah…and they’d keep dying even if you did what they were still doing only it’d be worse for so much longer.

I usually like your takes but you’re just saying “children dying=bad.”

Everyone knows that. But you also have to accept that there will be short term pain for a longer term gain. If you disagree then I’d like to hear solutions that you have to fix it without this. I mean- with these fixes an IMF loan is back on the table that could help alleviate some poverty potentially, etc. Economists are not the end all be all but again, the data is trending in the right direction despite the pain it takes to get back to good. There is no magic fix for decades of neglect here.

And who said he is good? I don’t personally like the guy for a bunch of his takes. But if this particular bit of policy is righting the ship then it should be lauded despite his personality or other flaws. And even then that is quite a…not sure how to phrase this politely, “lame” take that every libertarian ever doesn’t care about people’s suffering. I’ve read personal writings of his and it seems he believes that people are better off when they can provide for themselves without the state doing it for them. Now, I personally think that is bollocks but given where Argentina is with their massive government and massive debt he has far more room to have that attitude and push his ideas before they go too far. But again- if it’s just his personal beliefs it doesn’t mean that “does not give a shit about people suffering”- it’s that he believes they won’t once the state gets out of their way.

Seriously man- there is room for nuance here.

  • No she lost because people like you convince everyone that “both sides are the same.” They are far from it and Dems are worth voting for because in our electoral system they’re the better choice (and the only realistic one.) That and people don’t do their CIVIC DUTY. It’s not incumbent on anyone to get you to vote at all. Go vote 3rd party for all I care but at least go vote.

And big changes tend to happen after big events. If you’re so hopeless then go be a Luigi. I would accept that. But I quite frankly am not looking at starting a civil war before we’ve at least tried to vote change in. And we clearly haven’t tried given that people don’t do it every single damn time.

And what big changes? I’d argue the ACA was one. Same with the IRA. You might not think so because it’s not single payer wrapped up with a bow or that the IRA didn’t immediately take us down from 1.5*C change but they are big. And they were done with VOTING. If you don’t recall, healthcare was abhorrent compared to what we have with the ACA. And maybe if people went and voted Dem since that was passed we’d either have a true public option or be even closer to single payer. But they didn’t so we’re not. Funny that.

If you want to lose forever, keep doing what you’re doing.

Quite frankly, I vote left in primaries and Dem in general.

If YOU want to lose forever, keep your ass at home and your involvement contained to bitching online. Surely we’ll get to a better place then. /s

  • It’s tragic. But hey- where were the people voting in primaries to oust Liebermann? And Biden and company just passed the biggest climate bill ever. But sure- take your ball and go home. I’m sure things will magically get better by being lazy.

I think the turning point for being mature is when people realize that politics is not about big changes. Maybe they campaign on them but things don’t happen like that. It takes a long time even if the answer is obvious. Thinking that all of a sudden the US will dismantle the healthcare and health insurance industries in ONE term of Congress when it underpins a ton of the economy (which includes people’s jobs mind you- not just made up crap on the stockmarket) is foolish. It is a leviathan and will take time to eventually get to universal with insurance (ie. public and private) or single payer, etc.

And FWIW, it’s easier for Republicans to get what they want because all they want to do is break things. Trying to build something takes time. But again, go off.
