Alternating hot and cold can actually be good.
It’s invigorating. - Have you never jumped from a hottub into a cold pool or vice versa?
I believe it can also help with soreness.

TenForward: Where Every Vulcan Knows Your Name@lemmy.world•Shots fired...good thing Storm Troppers can't hit anything
2·15 days agoI think a lot of the love for it comes from “growing up” with it and having nostalgia blinders on.
I really loved SG1 when it was airing, but rewatching it nowadays I’m more in your camp -redeaming moments and really good episodes here and there, but for the most part it’s fairly mediocre and a background watch type show at most.

TenForward: Where Every Vulcan Knows Your Name@lemmy.world•Shots fired...good thing Storm Troppers can't hit anything
1·15 days agoI really like the premise of Farscape, but the execution was lacking. It can still be fun in small doses, but I find a majority of the episodes are just too cheesy for me (same reason why I could never get into Doctor Who).
T-rex (?) : looks so proud - “look what i made”
Triceretop: looks shocked - “did I do that?”

News@lemmy.world•California's ban on openly carrying guns is unconstitutional, appeals court rules
11·22 days agoYes, but your original comment is acting like not having open carry is the reason why shootings are less in Europe when its the tighter gun laws in general that prevents shooting incidents.

News@lemmy.world•California's ban on openly carrying guns is unconstitutional, appeals court rules
69·22 days agoThat has less (or nothing) to do with open carry and more to do with tighter gun laws in general.

Analog clocks are not “common” out in the world. Not where these kids are.

people with an interest in watches are a small percentage of people with watches. And most are “boomers” who don’t actually have an interest in watches beyond as a status symbol.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Can pets tell who's petting them without looking?
3·24 days agoI would imagine so - smell alone probably gives them a pretty accurate idea, but people also pet differently (probably not as uniquely as a fingerprint but differently enough)
Some people are heavy petters some light, some only pet in one direction, some only pet certain areas (head only, flank only, etc.) And so on.

12·1 month ago"The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was because they managed to spend less money.
Take boots, for example. He earned thirty-eight dollars a month plus allowances. A really good pair of leather boots cost fifty dollars. But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about ten dollars. Those were the kind of boots Vimes always bought, and wore until the soles were so thin that he could tell where he was in Ankh-Morpork on a foggy night by the feel of the cobbles.
But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that’d still be keeping his feet dry in ten years’ time, while the poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet."

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you have strong opinions about universal basic income?

UBI should be enough to comfortably survive - at least enough to cover food and shelter (with associated costs ie electricity/water/heat)
Working a job while on UBI would pay for enrichment type stuff - vacations night at the movies etc.
As it is now working doesn’t guarantee any of the 1st category that UBI should/would cover never mind the 2nd.

I believe they did that for quite a few shows too.
