Don’t forget the FBI’s core values of “fidelity, bravery, integrity” as they worked diligently to black out names on the Epstein files.

Technology@lemmy.world•AccuWeather, National Weather Service add “Lake America” to mapsEnglish
164·17 days agoNWS probably has their hands tied. AccuWeather on the other hand is run by bootlickers. They’re deep enough in that sphere that Trump tried to put the CEO in as the head of NOAA during his first term. They’ve tried unsuccessfully lobbying to restrict NWS’s free forecasting (the one we all pay for) because it was interfering with their business model. I’ll leave the sexual harassment problems as an exercise for the reader. These are shitheads who were shitheads long before this. Don’t use that service.
I know for a fact Sony will. I hesistate to call it a chargeback, but my bank did a transaction reversal after they caught a double charge from PlayStation for a game. The rep on the phone called it a chargeback. This wasn’t a double click accident; the transactions were 10 hours apart and I was asleep for the second. They locked my account and refused to accept any evidence that this was a mistake on their part and everything was in the clear as to who owed who money. I had screenshots and communications with my bank, but there was no one to send it to. They told me to pay the amount, then we could clear it up. I told them I’m not paying $150 for one game.
I never got my account back and lost all of my digital titles. I’ve used it as a warning now that Sony is talking about killing off discs. They can and will cut you off whenever they feel like it and you have zero recourse. You don’t own any of it.

Don’t give them any ideas for trying to make persistent ads in those too. Monopoly would ironically be the first.

10·22 days agoPE is a funny sore spot for me. It’s almost impossible to obtain if you’re not working with other PEs, which is unfortunately the vast majority of engineering roles. I think we have one in my company and he’s in a different state. I have a master’s degree in EE and 15 years working as an RF engineer, but I’ll still see a handful of people saying we’re not real engineers because we’re not holding a PE license we’ll never need.

Technology@lemmy.world•Garbage Trucks Now Have AI Cameras To Score Your House and Clock Code ViolationsEnglish
2074·22 days agoThe engineers behind these things need to be heavily blacklisted. “Oh yeah, Justin. He was one of the software engineers behind the garbage truck cameras. Toss his resume in the trash. Erica worked for Flock, toss hers too.”
Employers are already doing this, but I’d love to see it become more prevalent.
