  • I had the realization about this distinction several years ago regarding reddit. Over the years of attrition by various controversies, reddit no longer has moderators. They’ve all left. There are moderators in name but they do not moderate.

Many set the mod bots to do bot things and then fuck right off. To be fair moderating global scale messageboard is kind of an impossible task. Much less to do it for free. Can’t fault the the old school internet moderators for leaving.

On another note. There’s no way to tiptoe around the issue of intelligence. The baseline level of discourse just isn’t capable of hard topics as it used to be. People seem to like the social drama that arises out of lack of moderation. That biases towards the lowest common denominators. It’s like a modern day Jerry Springer shock jock entertainment. But live and interactive! Social media users seem to revel in it. Bread and circuses…

  • The NPC type people. It’s like they don’t exactly have a conscious that can be spoken with.

Some of you reading this might think I’m referring to individuals I think are dumb but it’s not that. I don’t know if it makes sense there’s a type of person that thinks they’re above others. And that it is them who are interacting with everyone else who are NPCs.

Like, dude. Snap out of it and talk to people like a normal human being.

  • Social platforms are under the same effect as voting. Over half population either supports it or is too ill informed. They just want to scroll their feed without thinking too much. Same way voters just vote for the one that sounds alright on the surface. Combined with the fervent supporters makes a majority. It’s the minority of voters/users who are opinionated against it.

  • Their premise is that the free market drove up the price of houses. Deregulation that is to say end of social housing programs led to this. Is that not neo-liberal? High construction costs come mainly from high cost of labor. The market driving up costs isn’t free market? What protectionist policies are there? When have property values been under threat of dropping. They’ve been ever increasing due to market demand. You say “lack of good investment”. Others say investors determined housing was a prime investment. Ditto for your last point.

a bunch of 5-over-1 in mixed zoning

    What does this even mean?

  • The goal has always been engagement prisons. Where people never leave the platform. With generated content this must seem like a final step. They don’t need to make people to interact with each other in ways that keeps both of them engaged. They don’t need to leech content from other sites while preventing people from going to the site. With generated content people will interact with themselves while engaged in completely fabricated content. It’s even more dystopian than ever.

  • This is a common tactic. I’ve seen people describe the same process many times before.

    1. Nazi says literal Nazi shit.
    2. Person gets baited into responding.
    3. Person gets ban hammer. Nazi does not.
    4. Nazi moves on to next target. Repeat from step 1.

They usually trot this out when they see a comment or account they want to silence. That’s how the fascists do censorship on reddit.

It’s happened to me too. Since then I’ve seen people saying the same general thing has happened to them. They must know that reddits content moderators, the “Anti-evil Operations” or whatever bullshit, is on their side. It’s the only explanation. Probably the nazis went and got jobs there. Or maybe it’s just that spez is a nazi himself. Reddit beneath the thin veneer of default subreddits has always been a very right leaning platform.
