Initially I was bummed out about not having internet points here like on reddit. However after considering the fluidity this offers… like being whoever you want to be anywhere you want… being able to migrate from one server to another… etc ithink I’d rather we keep it this way to avoid complications
This is one of the personal fears I have about society’s where ‘the mob’ decides. Most people haven’t had their fate decided by a mob before and so might not know what this means or how it pans out most of the time.
I believe it is imperative that we have something in place to avoid mob actions - not a central authority per say but possibly a collective code we all believe in and abide by. We could perhaps establish what is (un)acceptable on a fediversal (universal) scale and what is (un)acceptable on a local instances (instances decide this themselves obv.)
In the future we might need Lemmy/ActivityPub to be able to define posts/accounts/communities that are accessible across the Fediverse and those that are only accessible to users of that instance.
Hence we wouldn’t have the problem where for instance: members of one instance think pictures of furries is not NSFW content but members from other instances think it is
Probably not anytime soon haha
And yet everyone in r/linux and r/linuxmemes kept shitting on it
I don’t exactly have such a huge attachment but for 4 years of using reddit as a silent lurker, I only ever started posting and gaining karma last month… i got about 9k since then so yeah… having to restart is draining a bit… but like you said, it doesn’t really matter.
Ubuntu for life. Unpopular opinion i know, please don’t stone.
I’m getting the same retro vibe, for so long I’ve been missing how cool and simple things used to be, the fediverse sounds really amazing and a more futuristic way of engaging online.
However, I indeed miss the old reddit since I was an active member and also all the lost karma lol.
True, I can find any tab I opened on any device from anywhere. All my browser extensions are in one place. My search history, etc. And anytime I get a new device, I never have to waste time trying to configure firefox, it all syncs right back up
