If you like solar fields, try Asura (also on ultimae records)! Also, hinkstep is pretty nice but has vocals some of the time.
I’m writing a small music player to test it. The experience is pretty smooth, lots of examples and built in stuff. It’s a bit rough around the edges but I’d recommend it to anyone who likes rust

For storing state, I’d look at SQLite first. turbosql is a wrapper that looks like it’s a joy to use and I’ve been looking for an excuse to try it for a while :)

Galactic north really got me deep, after finishing the main trilogy. Id recommend reading it after for the full effect
Try the revelation space series, they are a little slow at times but I really enjoyed them
