That’s true, but you can still learn from a distro that’s easier to use out of the box. Then, if you’d like to learn more, you can switch to a more bare-bones option. OP doesn’t seem to be interested in learning to configure a distro himself.

if you’re unfamiliar with Linux and do not want to deal with a lot of troubleshooting you shouldn’t use arch. You chose a distro that comes with a very minimal configuration, which makes it your job to get a lot of it working. It’s also a rolling release, apps will update more often and with less testing, meaning you’re likely to experience bugs.
I just put the game in ~/Games rather than somewhere in the Wine C drive.
That is the owners account from the official forum, which is known to be real. The Lemmy account was a fake that copied their name from that account.
Ubuntu’s modified GNOME desktop feels less polished than base GNOME, and the font rendering is part of GNOME, not something Ubuntu does special. There’s little reason to use it over Fedora.
Vesktop supports the same mic detection and krisp noise suppression as the desktop client
Is there an actual implementation of this for Electron yet? Also, do you know any apps that use these yet? I haven’t found any.
Matrix does not have the features of Discord. It’s far closer to a Telegram alternative. It doesn’t even have voice channels, a very basic requirement for a Discord alternative.
I see. I’ve never had an issue with it forgetting my spot in a show, and as far as I know my friends haven’t either. Haven’t had connectivity issues either.
Can you elaborate on how it’s poor in that regard? That’s how I and many of my friends use it, and none of us have had any issues relating to that.
Bluesky is such a huge improvement over twitter and so many people are just ignoring that. Yes, the app is centralized, but you can still host your own data if you choose. Plus, the customizable feeds, algorithms, and moderation lists are all great.
Now normal people have a microblogging platform where they aren’t constantly having fascist propaganda shoved down their throats.
Community-based platforms aren’t receiving as much attention because while Reddit is getting worse and worse, it has not reached the level of enshittification Twitter is at. Most people are still going to keep using it. Twitter on the other hand is reaching the point where huge amount of people are leaving, making alternative microblog platforms very relevant.
They aren’t being ignored. Bluesky has real moderation, they are being banned.
A lot of the big accounts I follow have been reporting a huge loss in followers on Twitter and an even larger influx of followers on Bluesky.
I understand. I wasn’t disagreeing that it’s an upside of Mastodon, just clarifying for anyone who doesn’t know.
You only see the likes from your instance, they don’t federate to others. This is a purposeful decision made my the Mastodon team, but I don’t agree with their reasoning behind it.
Relevant video from PirateSoftware talking about the difference in engagement between them.
If you can’t decide, then you can just use the flagship instance, mastodon.social.
Tends to depend on the headset you own, some work perfectly. Also, Valve is very likely releasing a headset based on SteamOS, which should help.
