  • Sorry! No, we’re not performers nor especially attractive. In the interest of keeping it family-friendly we have a special interest and we connected because we were both fans of the same performer who is associated with and known for that special interest content that not many people like to enjoy. We are also avid writers so we wrote stories based on that special interest, and then we ended up getting to know each other through that writing. Writing is how we expressed those feelings that we can’t share with other people who don’t understand us as easily. After about a year of hanging out virtually I took a week off work and came to visit.

  • This isn’t so easy although it does happen. Most people aren’t meant to be in your life long-term IMHO and this typically isn’t the expectation that others will have when talking to randoms online. I met my wife on a porn site, although I wouldn’t recommend attempting to execute such a strategy for example. I recommend online activities that encourage interacting with a small group ofpeople on a consistent basis, such as a DND group, rolepaying, or perhaps writing short stories where you get the chance to know each other better while enjoying an activity that already makes you happy if you can find one.

  • Your phone can receive data from all sorts of potential input vectors. For example, someone can send you a text message that contains a document that your phone tries to preview that ultimately results in running code without your permission on your phone. Fake cellular base stations can attack the modem on your device. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi devices in physical proximity still produce radio packets that will be processed by your device even if you’re not actively joined to the same network.

These aren’t merely theoretical attacks either. They have been used in high profile cases to attack journalists and political figures even on devices that are up-to-date. Unless you’re using your phone exclusively in airplane mode without connecting to any networks or transferring data onto the phone of any kind, you are at increased risk.

EDIT: I wish to provide some practical advice. If you’re not likely to be specially targeted by a threat actor and you don’t process sensitive information on this phone, it’s probably not terrible to use it anyway, although you do so understanding and accepting that there is increased risk in using a device that’s no longer receiving security updates.

  • I’m not sure if you’re being sarcastic but this is not true. Electromagnetic waves travel fastest in a vacuum, so the presence of air would slow it down very slightly and I would expect higher air pressure would slow it down further again only incredibly slightly because the electromagnetic waves would be traveling through a medium less efficient and more different than a vacuum.

Of course I’m making an assumption that you were using wireless signals. For all I know, you could have some weird acoustic link in which case you’d be absolutely right.
