  • Over 6½ years ago, KFF Health News and NPR kicked off “Bill of the Month,” a crowdsourced investigation highlighting the impact of medical bills on patients.

The goal was to understand how the U.S. health care system generates outsize bills and to empower patients with strategies to avoid them. We asked readers and listeners to submit their bills — and they kept coming. “Bill of the Month” has received nearly 10,000 submissions, each a picture of a health system’s dysfunction and the financial burden it places on the patients.

Since 2018, we have analyzed bills totaling almost $6.3 million — including nearly $2.8 million that patients were expected to pay out-of-pocket.

While our “Bill of the Month” partnership with NPR is sunsetting, the “Bill of the Month” series will continue as KFF Health News investigates your medical bills. Keep them coming! And watch for future stories in [Jeffrey Bezos’ trash rag]

Great idea NPR, everybody in America is pretty satisfied with their healthcare right now so this series is clearly just dead weight /s

Also, if you think enough about what a lie even is you can rationalize a lot. Am I a self motivated and highly organized person? Well, nobody’s ever described me that way before, but maybe I could start being one right now, stranger things have happened. And if it all blows up a few months down the line because I couldn’t manage to get my shit together, I’ll take my couple of paychecks and tell myself “well, I meant to do better” and that will be at least 51% true and I will have a couple of paychecks I wouldn’t have otherwise.

Alternatively, just find a way to sell your weaknesses as strengths. e.g. “I’m not always super organized, but I’m real good at dropping in to a chaotic situations on short notice and getting the essential things straightened out quickly because my disorganized nature has forced me to learn those skills. I’m not self motivated, so you don’t need to worry about me undermining your plans and vision for this place with my own, making decisions makes me nervous so you do that stuff and I will see that your decisions are carried out.”

  • Yeah, I hate Joe Biden as much as anyone who knows his history on criminal justice issues should, but his mistake here was one of negligence.

    The real problem here is

federal authorities verified that their offenses were nonviolent

Like, how was this nonviolent? This judge participated in a scheme to kidnap children and if they or their parents resisted they’d have violence inflicted upon them, just because that violence was being done by police officers and the kidnapping was to a jail cell instead of a brothel shouldn’t change anything, but the system can’t help but give a judge the easy white collar criminal treatment
