I don’t have an anecdote, but I do have a good joke.
Late at night, a German coast guard radio operator gets a distress call. A British ship has capsized and is quickly taking on water.
“We’re sinking, we’re sinking!!” The panicked sailor yells over the radio.
Confused, the German operator takes a minute then responds “What are you… sinking about?”
Maybe I’ll switch to Mastadon. I find myself going back to Reddit as often as using Lemmy these days, so maybe it’s time.
I suspect everyone switching won’t solve the problem. Seems unavoidable that open-access, anonymous social media will be a target for propaganda any time it becomes popular. If everyone leaves for Mastadon, the shills and their LLMs will move over there.
The communism is a facade for their propaganda, and it also bolsters extremist discourse. Win-win for them.
Thanks for your efforts fighting disinformation. Seriously.
No doubt many have tried the fediverse and walked away because of Lemmy.ml/hexbear.
I don’t even admit that I use it as is because of the propaganda. I’m still hopeful for the future but my enthusiasm is dying.
I’m with you, I’m tired of breathing polluted air because of this kind of bs
The US elections aren’t the only thing targeted by the Kremlin’s propaganda
The Kremlin would be thrilled to see you in this thread shitting on the US
Lemmy.ml communism is mostly just a facade for spreading propaganda to useful idiots. If they were real communists I’d have some respect for them.
Lemmy.ml spreads a lot of propaganda/disinformation, has opaque and questionable moderation, and regularly advocates for violence.
More irresponsible than Nissan Altima or Dodge Ram owners isn’t easy
“seek immediate United Nations Security Council action to provide assistance to Ukraine”
That’s the strongest language I see, and that obligation could be filled by just pushing for Ukraine’s defense in the Security Council.
I think the US has been unfairly reserved in its support of Ukraine. They should have given jets, permission to strike in Russia, and more a long time ago. But I don’t think they’re obligated by that memorandum to do even what they have.
I hope Europe is prioritizing appropriately. Seems they’ve been caught flat-footed in multiple ways and they’re only slowly responding
Unfortunately the Budapest Memorandum doesn’t obligate the US to actually protect Ukraine.
Hopefully Europe can fill the gap left if Putin’s puppet cuts support US support
I think assuming AI will be as bad at driving is a bad assumption.
It doesn’t have to be perfect. Hundreds of thousands die annually in car crashes. The bar isn’t that high.
Lemmy.ml blah blah blah
