I have a better understanding of what’s under the hood. I lost the plot with Windows somewhere around Windows 2000. Apple got a pass for a while because OS X is founded on UNIX roots, but even it feels a bit more opaque these days. I was also raised on UNIX (Solaris) systems at Uni back in the 90s as Linux emerged out of Helsinki, and I took it for a spin. Over time, Windows and Mac just fell away. Typing this from my M1 MBP on Asahi.

I’ve been running Fedora for about six months now and haven’t run into an issue where the system failed or refused to boot. However, I have a single screen and no web cam, and only use it for web browsing and mild app development and deployment. On the Fedora side, do expect that you will see regular package updates as Fedora likes to move fast. (It’s already on the new KDE 6.7.)
RPM Fusion exists to address some of these points. It’s a set of RPM repos based in Europe that provide software that the Fedora Project itself will not.
I’m eager for this to drop in Fedora rsn.

The Asahi Project even has Fedora Linux running on Apple Silicon Macs, which are ARM-based.
KDE Plasma all the way, on the desktop, the laptops and the two set top boxes.

Linux@lemmy.ml•How much influence does Red Hat/IBM/US government actually have over Fedora?English
3·6 months agoPlus, the US government uses it for their own sensitive stuff, so one would hope they have the wisdom not to shit where they eat, installing a back door that 100% would get used against them.
Good luck on this one.

3·6 months agoOne could hope for a hardware kill-switch on WiFi, but those are increasingly rare. I don’t necessarily trust toggling the WiFi slider off actually stops the scanning.
At home I have my PC behind a DMVPN router (being a former network engineer has its perks) and that DMVPN router’s “external” link is further segmented on my home network.

In RHEL 10.2, I see this addressed in 6.12.0-211.34.1.el10_2, dated 14th July.
