I guess there are some examples of that happening with places like patreon, floatplane, twitch, kick, etc. It’s hard to fathom anything coming along that can even approach the reach of youtube without backing from another big tech company and eventually following the same enshittification pattern.

That used to be a fair deal. We know better now and even have a word for what will happen to us once we’re locked into the system, enshittification. Just about every subscription model eventually leads to squeezing as much as they can out of us without a corresponding increase in value.

That’s the guide I followed on my desktop and laptop.

Anything that runs windows can probably run Linux and work well enough for self-hosting. But you’re getting ahead of yourself with worrying about hardware.

Easiest way to start is to find something that you want to try selfhosting that is relatively simple and use WSL within windows to familiarize yourself with Linux/networking/docker.

Once you’re far enough along to know what your needs are, then you can start thinking about the hardware to meet those needs.

Also my daily. I’ve been a vertical tab person for many years with treestyle tabs and then sidebery. The tab management features in zen without the need of extensions is the primary selling point for me. Everything just works smoothly for my workflow and the UI is well thought out. I haven’t had any issues with stability or memory usage since moving over from firefox.

We’ve had to put up with shitty battery life on the android side forever. I hope these new batteries aren’t too good to be true but I’m not going to worry until there’s a reason to.

I’ve always been Nexus/Pixel until this year. Got tired of incremental performance increases and went with the OP15R. Still very early but I’m liking it (after turning off the bloat).

I’ve been watching the OnePlus spaces and haven’t heard about any battery issues with these new types of batteries but I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

I saw a headline recently about a sharp drop in homicides for the city. Doubt it had anything to do with policing. I am curious about other crime trends over the past few years. It’s hard to find reliable data that is unbiased.

For a mediacenter that isn’t on bleeding edge hardware, fedora or Debian would be my choice for stability. Performance will be similar regardless of distro.
