1·3 days agoIt could, but since the GUI was not very complicated it was not worth the effort caused by teaching the people who would have used the GUI how to do it in the CLI. They also have a lit of other work to do, so if I would have expected them to use the CLI, they would have probably not done the stuff I want from them at all.

1·3 days agoI do not want the user to ever be expected to edit the database by hand. If they make a mistake by doing so, they can break the entire system. That’s why I wrote a GUI which gets the job done.

4·4 days agoAnd now imagine yourself creating an UI in tkinter without an editor. Because that’s what I did. It was absolutely horrible.

9·4 days agoYou can even do inefficient UIs in Python using tkinter, which is part of the standard library in python.

27·4 days agoYou dont even have to look at the code to see this. Just make one wrong click in a UI and youre directly getting dragged into a UI that hasn’t changed since Windows XP.

4·4 days agoIf eventually fines do get calculated on their total income (which is possible, they can issue fines up to 2% of total yearly income if I remember correctly) and these fines are starting to come in more frequently it gets quite expensive really fast.

I like that ;)
What really annoyed me is, that for some goddamn reason fedora renamed or removed the dnf command to add repository’s and now each time I want to add a repository I have to write the config file by hand.
I think you massively underestimate the average tech literacy of the people active on Lemmy.
If you ask a biologist this will probably be the answer.
Longterm I want my purpose to be to create innovation in research and agricultural robotics without having to work for a capitalistic company with the sole purpose of making my boss more wealthy.
If you are moving/deleting multiple (but not all) files in a directory I 100% agree. But as soon as you just handle single files or directory’s I’m usually faster with the terminal. This is especially true when you have to edit config file. No way I Am searching my way through /etc/ in a GUI
The reason I Am always using the terminal is, since I on one hand prefer it than having to click through changing GUIs and for some things I dont even know how to do them with a GUI. First thing to come to mind is flashing an ISO file to a USB. While I know that balena Etcher exists, it never worked a single fucking time on various Distros. No matter if I used the AppImage or flatpack. So at some point I just started remembering the command for dd to do the exact same thing that works every single time.
Fuck you for triggering that hell of a trauma Latin cause me.

Its a German channel, but I would throw Simplicissimus into the ring. They always had high quality content, and the quality of their videos is constantly rising.
They also have an English channel
