I agree: I find the Stories to be a very powerful layer of Instagram.

After reading this very thread, one thing is clear: People simply don’t trust Meta, for good reason.
But I’m still, perhaps naively, hopeful that this one could be the platform to pivot the decentralised social web approach to the masses.
Also, a funny scenario: What if you wait it out until enough people follow you on Threads, then take all your followers and transfer over to a Mastodon instance? I may do that, actually.
A kbin related subreddit was banned because of “spam”. But as for removing or editing comments, I highly doubt it and I’d want to see a proof of that.
Correct, you will be able to do that. Also, a wild example: an Instagram user will be able to comment on a Pixelfed post
You are misinformed. All ActivityPub-enabled services can talk to each other. For example: You can post a comment on this thread via Mastodon.
It’s got a very dissatisfied userbase
I really don’t understand where you’re getting this from. Because, at least my Instagram, is thriving. Honestly, I see so much wonderful art on it every day, it’s ridiculous. I also follow many news outlets, magazines on it. The platform has never been better. Also, it has the advantage of having my entire professional and social circles on it. Everyone I know is using it daily, interact with each other.
Also, you can hide that barrage of reels very easily. Just tap […] on a suggested reel, then tap “Disable suggestions for a month”. It does exactly what it says.
It 100% is. They talk to someone on @mastodon.social in the screenshots. :)
LOL.
Yes! This can be glorious!
Yup. It has the potential to be a very useful tool. Currently, I use Stories to post some text-based thoughts, which is ridiculous, haha.
I’m a photographer and I have a relatively large following on Instagram; all my professional and social contacts are on there. So, that’s why it’s personally appealing to me. The Fediverse has (so far) been a bit of a lonely experience for me (but I still like it a lot).
Jack Dorsey’s clone/competitor is dead on arrival for me. Dorsey endorsed an anti-vaccination conspiracy theorist for the American presidential election. So… Yeah, not going to touch that one.
Yep. You’ll have to visit the link to see the discussion unfortunately. But the point of this approach is* to only get posts without having to visit reddit.
No ads, no profits. :)
Nail -> coffin.
You are welcome! RSS is a wonderful thing. It was all we had before the rise of centralised web. 🫠
Yes and no. Your RSS reader downloads it for you, you just view it. reddit no longer gets your “visit”. You no longer see ads, either.
I think so, yes.
