badelf@lemmy.mlto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How good is Lemmy dealing with censorship and why does the sign-up process on lemmy.ml involve having to copy a sentence from "The Principles of Communism"?15·8 months ago“The ideal subject of totalitarian rule is not the convinced Nazi or the convinced communist, but people for whom the distinction between fact and fiction (i.e., the reality of experience) and the distinction between true and false (i.e., the standards of thought) no longer exist.” She pretty much nailed it, didn’t she? Fuck up education has been the Republican playbook since Reagan, and clearly successful.
As an aside, I was impressed by the Marxist kibbutz started in Israel when it was formed by the Brits (legally or not). They were wildly successful. I don’t know of any other true Marxist orgs.

Hitler was a fascist, racist dictator (like Trump and Putin). True Marxism would be if the government of the USA was formed by, and responsive to the working class. A Marxist government (true communism) has an obligation to take care of it’s workers, not let them die because they can’t afford health care.
It’s a short explanation, but it’s pretty much correct. Join any server, and change later if you’re not comfortable.
badelf@lemmy.mlto Technology@lemmy.world•Why is Facebook filled with so much random junk now?English5·10 months agoIt’s because you’re still supporting them. That crap you see puts money in Zucker’s pocket. Delete your account and it will stop.
When authoritarian governments have complete power they don’t really checks and balances to the system, or juries. Take Putin - Navalny for example. You would know this if you aren’t a Holocaust denier.
As for the USA, let me put it this way: If Trump gets elected, with the tech tools the govt has, we will see, at the very best, another Hong Kong, with anyone that disfavors the Repubs disappearing, some permanently. At the worst, we will see another Nazi Germany. He himself proposed executing people.
If you practice privacy and can teach others, your skills will be valuable to the underground resistance.

I’m now on fixed income but I appreciate FOSS. I usually try to donate, especially if the project accepts bitcoin which I’ve had for a while so it costs me less. Too bad many projects don’t. That includes Wikipedia and they keep asking why I stopped.

It is. And don’t be an Internet dick, okay?
I’m retired on fixed income, but if I use an app, I try to send the developer some money. I usually only send if they have a bitcoin route. (Which is why I stopped supporting Wikipedia)
Perfect! I’m using Eternity now. Thank you!

badelf@lemmy.mlto Privacy@lemmy.ml•PSA: For those who want signal on secondary phone, use molly.14·2 years agoWhy is it not actually in F-droid? They want me to install a private repo? Has it been audited or is this a shill?

badelf@lemmy.mlto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Who cares about red flags in people. What are your green flags4·2 years agoExcellent question. For me, it has a lot to do with their sense of humor, general outlook, and their problem solving. ymmv
badelf@lemmy.mlto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Who cares about red flags in people. What are your green flags2·2 years ago“good” book is highly subjective. It depends not only on your tastes but also on your general mood while reading it. Same for film and art. I saw the Mona Lisa in person and was completely unimpressed.
It’s not about fucking left and right – It’s a class war. Did you ever hear about the French, or maybe even American, Revolution? Dethrone the King, aka the ruling class.
