I also think a vampire can be made more interesting by having their vampirism be more nuanced and combined with other character traits.

If it is a somewhat recent colony I don’t think it is that unreasonable. Generally you would want it to be self sufficient in most regards though, which should bring some diversity to the culture even if the focus is on a certain resource being extracted from the planet.

I would like to note that while rare non-binary and intersex parents do exist and might not want to be called mum/dad however there is not really a nice gender neutral alternative to my knowledge.
