I tend to think if they’re old enough to ask the question they’re old enough to (attempt to) puzzle out the answer. Obviously there can be too much of a good thing, but I think on average most parents hand-hold too much (the ones that aren’t simply neglectful)

I mean I think i’ll be a more gentle mom than that, but essentially, yeah. Kids are actually super great at learning. If they already show interest in something, they just need support and guidance, not someone to do it for them.

Instead i’d ask “why do you think it is?” and use that as a teaching moment about how to do research and how to test a hypothesis.

I think our perspective is a bit skewed because they’re the main characters. Even on Corusant during the height of the clone wars, average people just see the jedi as “guys with laser swords.” They don’t understand anything about the force or how it works, and it’s literally Jedi central. Out in the outer rim, most people probably haven’t seen a jedi and they would seem a lot more like fairy tales (or at least exaggerations so great that they might as well be completely false).

Oh, yeah, the forces are very intense. But it isn’t at all the same as coming to a complete stop - closer to the water hammer effect if anything (since the air becomes incompressable at those speeds). There’s also a lot of turbulence, vibration, and heat from the drastically increased air resistance.

The “sound barrier” is not a physical barrier, like a wall. You wouldn’t come to a complete stop. It’s just the point at which you’re moving so fast that the air no longer has time to move out of the way, and so it behaves differently.

It would be really rough on your body, to be sure, but not as bad as hitting a magic wall that makes you come to a complete stop.

Yeah I think that’s an anti-worker stereotype used to characterize workers as greedy, violent, and spiteful.

Most of the people in foodservice i’ve known ended up there because they love food. They enjoy handing someone a great meal or suggesting the perfect cocktail to pair with a dish. They aren’t going to ruin someone’s food like that because they genuinely care about their profession and craft.

I’d gladly swap if I got an actually livable wage.

Serving is far from the worst thing i’ve done for $20/hr. The problem is that ‘eliminating tipping’ means i’d make $7-12 per hour, which wouldn’t even pay rent.

I say this as someone who deeply enjoys the occasional drink: there is no known minimum safe dose of alcohol. Every drink shortens your potential lifespan.

As someone from the US: we all know what the military is up to and most of us would never join it willingly.

I’m not saying anyone who joins is evil but I am saying they’re some combination of evil, naive, desperate, and brainwashed, and definitely not representative of the average us worker.

Changing your economic habits can and does work. It’s just difficult, so people would rather not do it.
