I was abused by my christian parents.

I would like to live long enough to see humanity mature out of superstition and free the world from human greed.

  • People have egg allergies and can’t get vaccines unfortunately.

    Who told you that?

    https://www.bsaci.org/resources/allergy-management/food-allergy/vaccines-and-food-allergy/mmr-vaccine-and-egg-allergy/

The amount of ovalbumin-like protein within the vaccine is extremely low (approx. 37 pg per dose) and is highly processed. While initially it was recommended that only children with a mild egg allergy could be safety vaccinated in primary care with the MMR vaccine. Multiple studies subsequently have shown that the MMR vaccine has an excellent safety record in children with an egg allergy.

Maybe there is a very, very small percentage of the population who cannot get vaccinated because of egg allergies. But that would be covered by herd immunity.

Then you have the nutters that won’t take vaxxes and then here we are.

Correct! And why are they so prevalent? Partly because the head of health and human services spent years advocating against vaccines, is himself a nutter:

The health secretary’s call for parents to vaccinate their children for measles contrasts starkly with the many years in which Kennedy has been a leading proponent of misinformation questioning the efficacy and safety of vaccinations. Even since he became the country’s top health official, he has depicted a measles vaccination as a personal choice and claimed inaccurately that the power of the inoculation is waning.

But now he doesn’t want the casualties attributed to him, so he pretends to be reasonable.

For me I had a really bad reaction to the last set of vaccines I got. I now know what Tetanus feels like in a minor way. Believe me you don’t want it, it hurts a lot.

That is unfortunate. Thank you for getting vaccinated. Some people do not have the option, it would literally kill them, as would getting certain viruses. I hope it was some kind of fluke. Do you know what the specific reaction was that caused your pain?

  • 5 years ago, quickly contained? Noteworthy, sure, but unrelated to this article.

The question you should be asking is, “why are measles able to spread through US populations” regardless of origin? From the article:

Jha said that the dramatic rise in measles cases on Kennedy’s watch was not coincidental. “The administration has not done enough to promote vaccines. It has not done enough to highlight the harms that come from measles.”

Honestly, I’m surprised RFK Jr. changed his position at all. Some parents of children who die of measles double down on their decision not to vaccinate.

Children are dead because of what he chose to say.

He went on to blame the outbreaks on religious communities who eschew vaccines and on global health conditions.

I mean… a broken clock is right twice a day, I suppose. But he should not be in the position he has been appointed to. More people are dying.

  • The fact that our lives will come to an end makes every moment we have more precious. These are unique experiences that cannot be replicated.

Easy to say, and I do believe it, but also…

Boomers like my parents chose and still choose to perpetuate abusive systems instead of opposing them. I spent too long thanking them for teaching me violence because any other reaction would be met with violence. Why am I supposed to feel grateful about being born into a backwards, burning slave world?

I am finally getting treatment for alcohol dependency. I want to stop hiding from my own life, but I don’t know how. I wasted myself on people who don’t actually care about anything but themselves. It sometimes feels like there is too much pain for anything to be worthwhile, but I am also too scared to check out early.

So… I don’t know. We have a lot of problems to solve. Things may get worse before they get better, but there is potential for things to get better. Theoretically. 🤷 I hope they get better for everyone, including you. I wish I knew.

  • i am saying my belief is that they others are free to believe but not free to do whatever they want.

I don’t see the difference. They believe they are obligated to do those things, so they do those things.

There are laws for the things we can do and not do. We have the right (in the free world) to think what we want

Nobody can stop anybody from thinking their thoughts. My point is we should oppose false beliefs before they turn into harmful actions.

Please note that i am making a clear distinction between the freedom inside oneself (opinions, thoughts, beliefs) and acting on them.

What is the difference? They believe that’s how they should act, so that’s how they act.

If i believe my neighbour is an asshole, i am not and should not suddenly allowed to insult him.

Constructive criticism can change behaviors for the better, if everyone is listening to reason. Your neighbor shouldn’t be an asshole, that hurts everybody.

Unfortunately, yes. I agree on the problem.

Thank you. It is why I am a “militant” antitheist. I think that compromising with delusion gets innocent people killed needlessly.

  • But they believe they should do those things. Beliefs drive our actions. We should correct them every chance we get.

You: “Believe what you want.” Them: “OK, I believe my god wants to me to preach to you.” You: “Stop that.” Them: “No, my god demands it.”

    Now what?

And if they believe their (utterly unproven) god wants them to restrict healthcare? Wants them to avoid vaccines? Commit genocide, take slaves, fly planes into buildings?

Innocent people are dying for the selfish beliefs of others.

  • I (30M) am a biological male, but I am rather feminine for a guy and I don’t totally identity as one end of the gender spectrum

I am 34, assigned male at birth. I typically use male pronouns out of habit, but I enjoy androgyny. I have long hair and I don’t like to let traditional attitudes about masculinity to restrict my choices.

I don’t mind making perverse jokes

Sometimes they can be funny, generally speaking.

    about your female friends.

And now we have crossed a line, objectifying or misrepresenting real individuals without their knowledge or consent.

I have been told explicitly by my female friends that I “look innocent” and “doll-like” (which is a sign that the girls in my life give as good as they get).

Do you tell your dirty jokes to their faces? It sounds like they are being more honest with you than you are with them, but maybe I’m missing something.

(Note: Despite being fully able to feel sexual arousal and attraction and love and things like that, I have been through severe childhood psychological-sexual trauma, and I can’t ever imagine getting into an intimate relationship with a woman.)

I am sorry to hear that. Maybe the dirty jokes are a way of trying to exercise control over those experiences. I am just guessing, I am not a psychologist.

I have a rather dirty mind to be quite honest.

Probably not helped by constantly reinforcing this behavior with your peers.

Breast jokes are our thing lol. We’re all just normal guys

What is “normal”? I think you all have been conditioned to normalize unhealthy attitudes and behaviors. We choose some of our experiences, but others are thrust upon us, and we live in an age when we are constantly bombarded by conflicting stimuli.

Finding features attractive is fine until it crosses a line. Obsessing over or judging people for their physical attributes is too far.

I (30M) do enjoy talking that way about my female friends when I’m with other guys, but I also care a lot about my female friends and I stick up for them when I’m actually around them

It sounds to me like you genuinely care about everyone, but the style of jokes you share with your male friends may be in conflict with the respect you have for your female friends. If both groups were together at the same time, how would you act?

I have a very different set of problems, but I am in the process of asking myself this question that you might also benefit from considering: What kind of person do I want to be?

Thank you for sharing and asking. I think it shows that you care.

  • You start with “everyone’s entitled to their beliefs,” they harm you per their beliefs, and then you want to draw a line? Too late, you already gave them the blank check.

Christianity deserves pushback, not respect. It is a death cult. They don’t respect you, they think you belong to their god. They will be happy when you die, pretending you are rewarded in heaven or punished in hell. There is no such thing as a christ, we are not born with sin, we do not require divine salvation (which comes at the price of complete subjugation).

Can we stop letting them kill us? People should be held accountable for their choices, including the choice to accept and repeat baseless claims. As a species, we need to mature out of superstition before it kills us.

  • I have lived in the bible belt all my life, still trying to escape. People are proud of their beliefs even though they aren’t true. “Everyone is entitled to their beliefs” is the common sentiment, but it’s wrong. Everyone is morally obligated to align their beliefs with reality as closely as they can.

That’s where science comes in. It is not an authority, not a religion, not a system. It is a process we use to acquire and refine knowledge. Given the physical limitations of our senses and minds, it is the best we can do.

People need to learn before we all die of stupid.
