Most people care most about the wars they (1) hear about all the time, or (2) affect them personally. But (1) is most important.

Iran and Ukraine are both of those. Israel kind of too but not to the same degree nowadays. I guess if it started today, people would care less, but there’s already plenty of attention built up that doesn’t simply dissipate.

But the ones you mentioned, I have heard of the Myanmar one I think either here or on Reddit, but never heard about the other two, and neither have I seen any news on the topic anywhere. Nor does this stuff particularly affect anyone in rich countries afaik. I assume the reason why no one is talking about them is because of exactly that. Most people probably just aren’t aware of them, or how they are going. Their attention is being hogged by other conflicts, and in general people don’t feel like going out of their way to inform themselves about negative news. If it doesn’t come their way on its own, that’s it.

Why do people in these threads always act like uBlock is the only adblocker out there? It’s true that MV3 nerfed adblockers in general, but not nearly as much as what I’ve heard about uBlock Lite. The one I’ve always been using hasn’t really changed functionally at all from what I can tell.

Like, I see some people act like Chromium just doesn’t have usable adblockers at all anymore. That’s just not true.

There’s also Mbin which doesn’t really have this political baggage that both Lemmy and Piefed seem to have.

The US already has huge issues with understanding what you’re voting for. Why would you simplify it even further? You need to do the opposite if you want a healthy democracy. Make sure people are properly informed about what they’re voting for.

To me personally, “woke” means living in the real world.

A lot of people nowadays reject reality and prefer to live in a world of falsehood. They desire a simpler world, so they refuse to acknowledge the complexities of the world.

Woke people don’t do that. They engage with reality, not fiction. Which is what makes them a danger to those that do prefer to escape to a simpler fictional world. Hence them denying and opposing woke. It’s a defensive reaction to a perceived threat to their alternate worldview.

In the US I believe you can just carry weapons for whatever reason you want. That’s not quite the case in Switzerland. If you’ve got a gun for military service, for example, you’re only allowed to carry it from and to military service or the shooting range. You can’t just go to a school with it. Same applies to other purposes. You can only carry a gun for the specific purpose you have your permit for. You can’t just take it to a school or mall.

Plus, the people who have guns at home usually only have the guns, no ammo, iirc.

Expat is the term used by immigrants who think they’re better than the bad immigrants because they come from the good countries. At least that’s how it is in my country. Usually they’re the worse kind of immigrants because they refuse to integrate.

Lemmy and Piefed work a lot like email. Your posts are sent to a list of recipients, and only the receiving servers are aware of them. On Lemmy/Piefed, that list of recipients includes: the community you’re posting in, the user you’re replying to, any users you mention in the post, and users that follow you. Any server with a user on that list will get your post, any server that isn’t featured on that list will not. Communities will then fan out posts they receive to all their subscribers, allowing them to reach a greater audience.

If you posted to an obscure community, then that explains why your post isn’t visible on Piefed. If you registered on a smaller Piefed instance, that could also explain why they might not have received your post. Less users means that, even if the community is large, it’s less likely for someone to be subscribed to it.

It’s also possible that the Piefed instance has blocked your Lemmy instance. Or, if you just made your posts, that it’s just taking a while for the two servers to communicate.

Interesting, seems like lemvotes doesn’t show downvotes for Mbin users. Only upvotes.
