Ya but not for anything outside that specific reason for the emergency. For this example some of those added powers is so the government can cut some red tape to reduce the problem. The chicken industry in CA alone is worth billions of dollars, directly employees tens of thousands of people, and indirectly employees hundreds of thousands of people. Adding in the fact that it’s also a public health emergency the governor using state police to restrict access to chicken farms isn’t some authoritarian move to suppress the people. It’s to keep nut jobs (PETA, Conspiracy theorist, etc) from getting sick.

State of emergency just sounds scary but it’s more about unlocking additional funds for issues. My state was under a “state of emergency” for drought. All it ment was some industries and communities could receive extra subsidies for water costs.

That’s mainly because he was just the CEO of their insurance wing/department. United Healthcare also has several CEOs but the main one is the big bad.

People don’t realize how evil United Healthcare Group is. UHG buys up struggling hospitals and private practices and forces them to also deny care at the source. Why are hospitals and private practices struggling? Because UHG refuses to pay them for services already provided. So even if your claim is successful. There’s no guarantee that money will reach your doctors office. Most smaller hospitals and practices don’t have the lawyers and funds to sue them for nonpayment so the UHG comes to them with a sweet heart deal. Sale their hospital or practice to them, then they jack up prices at their new hospital or practice, or they stop offering non-profitable treatments making patients go out of network to get medical care.

Counter offer. They all disappear themselves to some private island now and have no contact with the outside world outside of stuff needed to survive comfortably; in exchange we don’t literally burn them alive.

The point is neither situation should ever happen in a system that puts humanity over profits. A mentally ill, homeless, and starving person should exist in our society because we have the means to house, feed, and provide Healthcare for everyone. (we just don’t have the morality)

Also, the strangle hold was applied for 5 min. I’m no expert but when someone goes limp from blood flow being blocked, you usually don’t need to continue choking them for an additional 4 min.

I think the point is, the system pushed one man to his breaking point simply for being poor, black, and mentally ill; resulting in his eventual strangulation on a subway. Not saying the the situation didn’t require intervention but acting as if the whole thing was “unavoidable” or even “justified” gladiator giving all the context is Pretty Fucking Important
