  • Finished Elantris by Brandon Sanderson. I enjoyed it a lot, but kinda feel like it stumbled a bit towards the end. Maybe it was the rapid changes in POV, or maybe because it suddenly added new POVs in the ending chapters? There is also a lot of unresolved stuff, as it sets up sequels that don’t exist yet. Was still a very enjoyable book though. It was my first Sanderson, and I’ll be checking out some more of his stuff soon. Maybe Mistborn? Taking recommendations on where to go next!

I also finished The Hedge Knight by G.R.R. Martin. Picked it up because of the new HBO show, Preston Jacobs spoke so warmly of the book in his review of the show, and I was so impressed when re-reading A Game of Thrones recently. I was not quite as impressed though, a nice little short story, but I didn’t get that invested. There are just so many names presented in a very short story, and I found I had to backtrack quite a bit to keep track of who these people were. I have the collection of the 3 first Dunk and Egg stories and will keep going through them though.

    • Currently finishing up Elantris by Brandon Sanderson. I’ve been looking to read more Science Fiction, and had heard Brandon was a staple, so I went to the library and picked one of his books almost at random. Turns out it was Fantasy. Still a blast though, I have enjoyed it a lot.
    • Earlier this week I also got inspired by the new show and picked up A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. I have read A Song of Ice and Fire way back (all that we got at least), but never read any of his other stuff before.

This is kinda part of a new shift to “go back” to reading more fantasy and science fiction again. The last years I have mostly read contemporary stuff and non-fiction. Over Christmas I read both Children of Time (very good, but not quite as captivated as many others) and I re-read A Game of Thrones (even better than I remembered it), and it has kinda rekindled my love for reading.

  • Probably nothing, as I’m already kinda busy juggling Silksong and Hades 2 with the occasional Starvaders and Splatoon 3 session. I might end up just getting Cuphead for later though, and would maybe have considered God of War or Spiderman if there weren’t so many other great games to play.

For people who haven’t played it, Ori and the Will or the Wisps is a great buy at 75% off. Probably my favorite metroidvania if you don’t count Tunic as a metroidvania.

  • This game looks so cool. I loved how you shoot things into the wall and then jump on them, and also the clip where he throws a bottle up in the air, jumped up and hit it at the enemy. I have eyed Islets by the same developed earlier, which is also a metroidvania, but haven’t quite been convinced to buy it. Will be interesting to see how it ends up when it releases!
