PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Question: Does a higher refresh rate monitor make sense?English
2·6 days agoSo I’ve done research on what display traits work best for people for remote operation. An the answer is it varies a lot from person to person.
Everybody shows task improvement and likes it better as you increase to 30fps. From 30fps to 60fps most people improve and like the experience better but image quality starts to matter more. (we used different levels of compression for quality)
After 60fps most people benefit from better image quality and don’t get much from higher FPS . However there is a small group that shows a huge preference and improved preformance with higher fps even at the expense of much lower image quality.
The high FPS people responded instantly and vocally when we increased in the FPS during the test. So you may be in the high FPS group but you should be able to tell with a brief eyes on test of a high FPS system.

News@lemmy.world•Jury acquits D.C. 'sandwich guy' charged with chucking a sub at a federal agent
781·12 days agoSo I was on a jury. The officer involved testified on some things that made it sound very bad for the defendant.
Then we saw the body cam of part the interaction. Technically what he said was true but extremely exaggerated. Made us discount everything he said that wasn’t on video.
We ended thinking the defendant was probably guilty but they didn’t prove it so we decided not guilty.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is there a way to remove the loud *BEEP* noise that cenors profanity from your life?
1·19 days agoIt’s a simple one frequency sound so a basic band gap filter should do it. Three might be a browser extension that does that.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Hot Take Time: What is a popular long-running franchise that just needs to stop?
1·21 days agoI’d rather see them bring back Alpha Centauri level costumes and effects than have RTD anywhere near the show. Get someone who knows how to write a good show.
Lower budgets and no fancy effects can force the writers to have to write an engaging story. I don’t want any new Who creatives still involved. I think other than a handful episodes of Eccleston and Capaldi I don’t ever want to rewatch any new Who.
Honestly you have to go all the way back to pre JNT before you get stories I enjoy watching.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Hot Take Time: What is a popular long-running franchise that just needs to stop?
2·22 days agoWhich is a strange decision because Disney is at it’s best when picking good existing stories and doing a quality adaptation.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Hot Take Time: What is a popular long-running franchise that just needs to stop?
5·22 days agoIt needs new blood but keep RTD far away from it. He is garbage at both story and character. I think he is responsible for more that 2/3 of all the fart jokes in Doctor Who.
I think it needs to go back to serials. Give stories enough time to setup problems and them actually solve them. The Doctor just magics hits way out of problems these days.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why did Thanos, with the power of all the infinity stones, never think to try doubling the amount of resources in the world?
25·24 days agoBecause his original motivation was to impress a girl he liked. Death is a hot chick that he was in to but she wasn’t interested in him. So he figured killing half of all life would impress her.
They decided to make his motivation more sympathetic for the movie. They didn’t think through how his new goal could be better served with the godlike powers he gets.
Yeah first few session it’s believable he gets away with what he does. Later the power of the plot protects him.

8·27 days agoThey have access to a bunch of digital content. However it can be hard to find what you are looking for or even know what databases and other services are available.
Discovery services try to make that more available to end users. Kind of like a index of all the digital content the library has available.

4·27 days agoTitanium Noir. Scifi noir detective story. There is a drug that reverts your age back to about 20 and heals most health conditions.
It causes you to speed run puberty so each time you take it you get bigger. Only the ultra rich can afford it.
It’s pretty good so far and an easy read.

6·1 month agoThey both still loop in the story. Before killing the big bad they fight to the death because the loop will keep repeating unless there is only one mimic (the reset aliens and both of them) at the end of the day.
He kills her and the other mimics then the big boss. Ending the loop at the cost of her life.

Sort of. There isn’t a Nobel prize for economics. He has a Sveriges Riksbank that’s given at the same ceremony.
