I don’t trust the “benevolent superhero” trope because realistically, you may get some Batmen, you’d get twice as many Banes and then a statistically small but present number of Jokers. That’s not even accounting for a Freeze style situation where someone is committing crimes to fund a relatively justifiable cause and your Ivy’s who are doing a net positive for the world but the methods are technically illegal.

  • Trump’s not even bad by republican standards, he’s just vulgar and baffoonish. Replace him with Jeb! or Ron DeSantis or your garden variety Republican and you’d get the same defunding, same deregulation and same enshittification as him, just more subtle.

Come back when he’s killed a million Iraqi civilians over fictional WMDs or getting several million people addicted then dead over opioids by deregulating prescription.

He didn’t commit war crimes in Vietnam, spill over to Laos and Cambodia. Come back when he pardons the perpetrators of My Lai. Come back when he interns Japanese and nukes civilians. Come back when he Manifests Destiny.

    Top 5 my ass

.world pre-emptively blocked them (twice) because they’re nerds they’re hosted in the EU and they thought they’d get in trouble by association for being federated with instances that promotes discussion of something illegal in their physical server’s jurisdiction. They had a lot of traffic. The db0 comm is still alive.

Reading that post, the OP linked an unsourced Imgur album with blatant lies like “10,000 people were incinerated and hosed down drains” spliced between actual photos of the protest is fucking wild. The 10,000 figure was reported once then immediately retracted, the fact that OP was posting blatant propaganda as fact was conveniently left out as “tankie censorship”.

Let’s put that into perspective: US intelligence officially puts the number below 900. The OP was saying it’s over 10,000. It’s an order of magnitude above the 3 letter agencies of the US.

“Tankie” in the traditional sense of someone who uncritically supports the USSR in the handling of 1956’s uprising? Probably not.

While Kruschev’s use of tanks in 1956 was heavy handed, the Hungarian alliance with the Axis in WWII and participation of Operation Barbarossa, lingering fascist sympathisers and nationalists remained in Hungary.

This coupled with the Communist Party of Hungary’s less than equitable redistribution of land/castles/other properties earlier in the 1950’s (favouring giving properties to ranking CPH members instead of distributing it to the proletariat equally). This created resentment for the Party, and an image of the Communists as no better than the Monarchy that came before or the Fascists that came after.

The Hungarian uprising had elements of fascist sympathisers, monarchists, bourgeoisie, etc but also legitimate critics of the handling of the situation. It never should have come to that, and a more educated/self critical Communist Party in Hungary could have prevented things from getting that far. The people should have benefitted a lot more from a better redistribution of wealth.

The above issues coupled with Soviet distrust of Hungarians (since they did invade the Soviet Union in the 40’s) led to a swift and harsh reaction towards the uprising, seeing it as just a reactionary revolt.

Now, am I a tankie in the Reddit redefinition, of anyone that critically supports Cuba, China, Vietnam and their style of government? Yeah, I suppose I am. This is no more radical a position than Malcolm X or the Black Panthers who also supported the late USSR, China and Cuba.

  • 太丢脸了。

Like this is deeply embarrassing. Nancy Pelosi kneeling while wearing Kente Cloth levels of embarrassing. It shows OP doesn’t have any close Chinese friends and also demonstrates a reddit headline level of understanding of China; Hong Kong is not behind the firewall, HKers can (and often do) post this picture.

As a Chinese person, the mental image of OP smugly posting this to “own the tankies” in the same way MAGA dipshits post “Let’s Go Brandon” hoping to own the liberals has given me a near lethal amount of second hand cringe.

Please, for the love of god, never approach a Chinese person with this attitude irl. This is on par with ordering an “Irish Car Bomb” in an Irish pub on St. Patricks day, or saying “grassy-ass” to your Hispanic server instead of “thank you”, or trying to use anime Japanese around Japanese people, or code switching to AAVE around black people.

  • Liberalism fundamentally has an incompatiblity with socialism and communism because it’s fubdamentally rooted in the rights of an individual to own land and/or the means of production, as well as supporting market economies.

This is in stark contrast to workers owning the means of production, or seizing private property for the greater good.

Liberals in other countries tend to be centre right, such as the Australian liberals or a fair amount of European liberals.
