yeah no, I can’t really disagree with that. I also don’t feel like re-watching any of his movies - in fact i was interrupted in the middle of Oppenheimer, and don’t even feel like finishing it

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What would it take for you to switch to Linux?English
1·2 days agoI’ve used old computers for phasing out certain social networks - e.g. I’d block Facebook on my main computers, and only access it on my old laptop. That’s been quite effective. You could do that, and just use Linux Mint or Xubuntu on that old laptop. Very real learning necessary, and you do manage to break it somehow, it’s not a big deal.

5·2 days agoFor me, as someone who’s not into esports-games, I just expect games to work on Linux now, and they nearly always do. The exception has been a couple of old or obscure titles that run fine in a virtual machine. I’m not running any fancy version of Linux, just Mint, and the only thing I do to get them to work, is install them on Steam. Proton is amazing.
If you are into esports-games, though, there’s a risk that they’ll require kernel-level anticheat, and Linux does not do that.
Exactly. And the style, while it’s pretty and cool looking, works together with the paper-thin characters to give this introspective muffled and artificial feel to all of his works.
I kind of find the gimmicks to be the most enjoyable parts of his movies. They’re also very pretty.
Good question, it’s a lot easier to be negative. I enjoy Tarantino movies, A more high brow movie I liked is The Act of Killing, I liked the HBO series The Deuce, ehm… this is hard.
Nolan movies are mid

They did use Mint in a previous video, and in the comment field on Youtube there’s rumors he’ll be trying Kubuntu since Pop was so buggy.

1·5 days agoI think I know what you mean. There is a lot of focus and attention being put on the shittier kind of masculinity these days – by some because they hate it, by others because they want to convince the world that it’s actually great and the key to unlocking a golden age.
Even though we don’t talk about better kinds of masculinity, I think that most people just know intuitively that they exist, though… unless they’ve just had horrible luck in life.

oh, well in that case I’m not sure what they could have done, aside from being clearer that this was a threat that users had to be aware of
“When the police comes knocking on your door, you can’t just blame Proton”
obviously, but the ideal we should be working towards is that privacy is the default, right? The more normal it is to have this kind of privacy, the less suspicious it is.
are they legally required to store the credit card information?
Expecting everyone to be good at opsec is not a practical solution - making it the problem of the company that can and should hire people to be good at opsec, is.

3·6 days agoI dunno, by that way of thinking there are plenty of ways of dividing up humanity and saying “if all those people died, the world would be a better place” - I don’t know how constructive it is, though. There’s nothing about being a man that prevents us from being good people, though there may be some things that make it harder

Technology@lemmy.world•Discord delays global age verification rollout after backlash - DexertoEnglish
1·14 days agoYeah, I’ll have to work on my explanation there as well.
As I understand it, Matrix is a standard for doing Discord-like things (and other stuff as well, but never mind that), but it’s also an organization that hosts a service that follows that standard - you can make an account there, and use whatever client you like to join servers and do Discord-like things.
But anyone could host such a service, or make such clients, so a big tech firm could never fully own Matrix - in the same way that they can never fully own email.
Sound right?
Not only that, but a lot of constructive thinking goes in to just formulating thoughts so they can be communicated. We’ve all had that sense of “that sounds stupid when I say it out loud”, for example.

Yeah, that does suck. I usually check GOG first for a Linux version, and if it doesn’t exist I buy the game on Steam.
