  • Narrative driven, story rich games don’t sell?

How many video game franchises are making the leap to tv/movies these days? Hint, it’s the ones with narrative driven, story rich games.

Go ahead and make pay to win mobile games, I don’t play them and they rake in millions so it makes perfect business sense.

But the idea that gamers don’t pay for good narrative driven, story rich games is laughable.

I think the biggest problem with a lot of game franchises have is they only sell the game. So much money is being left on the table with the best efforts being a screengrab lazily printed on a cheap shirt that sells maybe one or two.

If I could get some official, quality, Umbrella/Shinra/Arasaka/Faro corporation mugs, phone covers, meme tier shirts etc I’d be all over it.

  • People love crapping on the reality of resource economics.

Someone is going to provide the coal.

The real solution would be for Canada to be aggressive in its green energy programs (and start accessing resources other than lumber and oil).

Being a leader in green energy production (not just by having nuclear, hydro etc) but actually producing solar, wind, batteries, etc for export.

Using carbon based energy to create low carbon energy sources is the only way we’re going to successfully transition away from fossil fuels.

The main problem is that we do 1% green and 99% carbon, and that number never really seems to change.

Our carbon tax is not improving public options to ditch fossil fuels, which should be the whole point of a carbon tax (reduced use by increasing price, and using the tax to create low carbon alternatives).

I doubt we’ll ever be serious about a green transition anytime soon.

  • Honestly, unless this tooth repair gel thing works and becomes available soon, I’d rather have some of my teeth replaced with implants.

I’ve asked my dentist “can we just skip the endless filling replacements, caps, crowns, and eventual implants and just go right to implants?”

They always say no, and I ask is there a reason why “natural teeth” with fillings/caps/crowns are better than implants - they reply with “But it’s your teeth! They’ll last a long time before needing implants!”

Yeah, so I’ll need implants eventually, can’t I just get them now before I put more fillings, caps, crowns, and eventual implants? Ain’t nobody got time for that.

“but your natural teeth will last a long time!”

Yeah, but they ain’t so natural after 5 procedures, and I’d rather avoid the ha$$le and just get the implants now instead of implants and a lifetime of repairs.

They always say no, and it’s probably because they make way more money fixing bad teeth than replacing it with something permanent

    EDIT

    Thank you everyone!

I’ve gotten better answers here than from my dentist, so thank you everyone for educating me on the reasons why.

  • Honestly, blame the media for this one.

They talked about project 2025 for maybe 10 days and spent the rest of the time ignoring the absolute fact that concrete steps are being taken across the board to end democracy and impose a Christian theocracy as fast as possible.

There was no concentrated effort to warn Americans of the very real threat Trump is, and what absolutely will happen if he won the election.

All the public saw was a witch hunt against Trump that went nowhere as he promised to be a dictator and change the fundamental structure of the United stated to further billionaire interests, and the actual reality of this was never explicitly stated.

News media is responsible for educating the population, with standards on the quality and accuracy of the information, but neither side will ever do any such thing.

Both political parties and every news medium are completely corporately owned and will never platform something that threatens their control.

  • But doesn’t Trump hate China?

Obviously he’s extremely succeptable to bribery/flattery etc so he could easily “art of the deal” Taiwan off to China.

Personally I feel like he’s definitely having a vindictive king renaissance so I’m expecting a lot of inflexible decisions made entirely on impulse - because that’s exactly what the people want.

Don’t know if I see him going to war with China as getting bribed is better than fighting and potentially losing. Plus, fighting implies you don’t have enough power/influence to win without fighting and Trump is all about projecting power.

If he does want war, I wouldn’t be surprised to see an American foreign legion formed out of the 20 million immigrants he wants to deport
