  • In shadows of the ticking clock, there lies A thief of time, with clever, cunning guise. Procrastination, sly, with whispers sweet, Entices us to slumber, rest our feet.

A task undone, it lingers in the air, A burden heavy, yet we seem to care, For fleeting moments, pleasures of the now, Distract us from the work that we endow.

But oh, the weight of tasks we let delay, Grows heavier with every passing day. Regret, remorse, a burden on the heart, When from our goals we slowly drift apart.

Yet in this dance, we find our strength anew, A force within that guides us to push through. The first step’s hard, yet once we start the climb, The path to progress seems to shift in time.

Break chains that bind, with courage face the fray, With focus clear, procrastination’s sway Dissolves like mist before the morning sun, And in its place, a sense of work well done.

With each small victory, the battle’s won, Distractions fade, and soon the task is done. Remember this when next the urge you fight, A single step can lead to boundless light.

For in the end, the greatest treasure found Is not in idle moments, safe and sound, But in the joy of seeing dreams come true, Through effort, heart, and every task we do.

  • It’s not a matter of being overly respectful really - it’s the culture of being shit scared to say anything which someone might find offensive. Sometimes you want to be comfortable enough to just be friendly with strangers, and hope that they will take things in the spirit they were intended…

Reddit is one of two sites (the other being a private tracker, the ‘cappers’ of which are a very very touchy breed - if you even suggest that it wouldn’t be difficult for them to name their files in a logical manner they throw hissy fits and threaten to quit… so that everyone simply SIMPS over them and worships the ground they walk on.

The difference being that if you upset someone on Reddit you get cut off for a few days. It’s a painful addiction - it’s like a 20 per day smoker being forced to go cold turkey for 3 days, and then being allowed to smoke again until the next cold turkey.

I guess I’m waiting to see if I actually encounter the toxic behaviour I heard people have seen in the Fediverse - I’m sure it’s out there, but really I’m mostly happy that it isn’t any longer part of the second most evil organization on earth…

Google being the first, and Reddit being the second… I’m hoping to see alternative search engines catch up ASAP (I used SearXNG to get a ‘blend’ for a year already) but there are many other issues which need sorting out.

    Fediverse is a nice start.

  • In a nutshell:

Imagine if you own a nice Jaguar - keep it in your garage and let the neighbours borrow it to go to the shops. Now you need to do some maintenance, and make up for losses in your taxi service (which might cost $2 per km) so you wanna price this as a premium service. … so you could charge them $5 takeout fee plus $1 per km, or (if you’re greedy) just go for $5 per km.

What Reddit did is say ‘Fuck you, you want to use it, you pay $100 per km or fuck off - we don’t care’.

The amount of money Reddit makes for you getting advertisements is actually less than $1 per km… The same occurs with YouTube. If you actually click to donate, then you can pay enough to cover thousands of hours of advertisements in one small swipe.

What we need is MICROpayments spread across a wider user-base to balance the ad-supported platform, and then people will accept that small payments are better.
