“We know why Putin killed Alexei three days ago,” Yulia Navalnaya said Monday.

Yulia Navalnaya, wife of late Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of being involved her husband’s death and vowed on Monday to continue his work.

“We know why Putin killed Alexei three days ago, we will tell you about it soon,” she said in a video message. “But the main thing we can do for Alexei and for ourselves is to continue to fight. I will continue the work of Alexei Navalny, continue to fight for our country, and I urge you to stand next to me.”

Navalny, a long-time Russian opposition politician and critic of the Kremlin and Russian President Vladimir Putin died in prison at age 47 on Friday, the state prison service said.

      Dead people?

Though I agree with the intent. We need more people willing to stand up for what is right, even if it kills them.

Oh I agree. I don’t think I’d be able to do what he did, but it’s inspiring to see. And in the end if you want to have a positive impact on the world you have to do what you believe is right no matter what. And we can be 100% certain now that his motivations were selfless.

More radical assholes than even Putin? I’m all about Putin’s shit getting kicked in, but Navalny and folks like him are not a solution we should explore. I’m sick of people glorifying both of those assholes. Defending Navalny is like defending solving your wasp problem with rabid badgers. I don’t want either in my home, and though the latter may solve the first, it’s going to create some much bigger problems

They fell for the Russian disinformation campaign trying to paint Navalny as a far right nationalist and proponent of the Ukraine invasion, even though he repeatedly voiced his disapproval in recent years.

Russian disinformation? Can you name a single policy that would have made Navalny a desirable outcome? You think he’d pull out of Ukraine?

In February 2022, Navalny compared the recognition of the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Luhansk People’s Republic by Russia to when Soviet leaders deployed troops to Afghanistan in 1979, describing both events as a distraction to the population from real issues. He said that he believes that while Putin will not allow Ukraine to develop, Russia will pay the same price, and that Putin needed to be removed to save Russia.

On 2 March 2022, Navalny urged Russian citizens to stage daily protests against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, saying Russia should not be a “nation of frightened people” and “cowards who pretend not to notice the aggressive war” launched by “our insane tsar”.

If, to prevent war, we need to fill up the jails and police vans, we will fill up the jails and police vans. Everything has a price and now, in the spring of 2022, we should pay that price. — Alexei Navalny

Navalny would’ve been the preferable candidate in every regard. The list of reasons is literally too long to be summarized by a single comment.

Because the man is a racist, imperialist, fash piece of shit. It’s an unfortunate mentality when you figure there’s only two options here. There are a million better outcomes possible. Forgive me for not rooting for Pinochet to replace Pol Pot.

Please provide the proof, you’re just saying stuff, I’m asking you to support your position.

I’m curious and I’m not against you, but I can’t take what you’re saying as serious if you are only saying “feelings.”

I already can guess he will try to frame Navalny’s video from 16 years ago about Basaev’s militants and Kadirov’s personal army as “racism towards muslims”.

I hope EU would provide security measures to ensure her safety. There’re a lot of agents everywhere and she put a huge bounty on herself, and there have already been attacks on those emigrated. I’ve heard she and her people had collected a larger list of persons dodging sanctions that could reduce russian money-laundering and tech import schemes - not exactly a lethal blow, but a big problem for military production.

There’s already a campaign to put her through mud by saying she fucked around while Alexei was in prison, overstating how nationalistic* he was and all that jazz. She is treated as significant by russian media, so even though I don’t see her been the straw to break the camel’s back, she is seen as problematic and worth the character assasination. I can easily see how a real assasination can come next before she had a chance to act.

If EU wants to have her as a bridge to opposition, they should be really concerned with her staying alive.

    * He wasn’t an angel, but as I stated many times before, he brought opposition together and put a lot of work trying to shake the regime. We had better people, but they are either dead or unknown outside of Russia. His platform of fighting corruption was very accessible and that’s why he’s nearly never mentioned in official news and his Clever Voting (УГ) initiative was the first TG channel to get outright banned by Durov, ruining his years as a public proponent of security and freedom of information. Can’t argue with the universal dealer for they given me that hand, we are here only to play it right. And he happened to be an ace in that game.
