He owned up to it when he was attacked and he had already previously owned up to it and put the effort in to “do better” as it were for years by that point. Gunn’s firing is basically the ultimate counter to “Do one bad thing and people will ruin your life for it”. he did a lot of bad shit but he had demonstrated he was not the same person saying that stupid shit and people defended him for it.
