At some point somebody should step in here. Computing has become so ubiquitous that it’s pretty much needed in a functional world. Why should AI centers get the supply while we suffer with higher prices/worse products?

Because that way they can rent computing back to us while controlling what information is fact and what is fiction.

That’s the funniest part here: those LLS are not very effective, but still “AI” companies have an enormous amount of money.

They get a lot of money because the company and investors that create genuine AI win capitalism. We’re in the endgame now. Or we will be when we are close to creating genuine AI rather than LLMs.

But they’re not going to stop you using computers. They’re just going to stop you using YOUR computer. They want you to pay a subscription to use THEIR computer, and to own all your data. So of course they can scan that for even more targeted ads.

This is the endgame the techbros want. And the shitter about this is, we’ll end up paying more in subscription fees than we did buying parts, and to kick us in the teeth, I’d bet that we’ll only get whatever GPU/CPU compute is leftover from their priority corporate/AI contracts.

If doesn’t stop at ads. Someone with all the data - remember this includes enterprise - can predict markets. They can get ahead of new inventions. They can insider trade. They can pick winners and losers. They can censor unfavorable articles. They can swing elections.

Why do you think they push for laws to force you to ID yourself online at all times? Why do you think they push for backdoors in encryption? And, conveniently, both of those things also make cloud platforms an easier way to enforce compliance, as well as providing them with full access.

The techbros are building a panopticon for total control, not just to sell more ads. It’s WAY more nefarious.

Well I didn’t want to go full Orwellian. But I have thought about it too. Of course the most sinister thing in 1984, where they change history by replacing articles in the newspapers. That would be possible. Because if all you have are some hand scribbled notes or your certain own memory that we were DEFINITELY at war with East Asia, but everyone else knows the truth, they assure you of the truth. That we were always, at war with Eurasia. You’re suddenly that crazy guy.

The vast majority of people have little real memory or grasp of history. Already on X people are asking grok such simple questions.

Now, you might say, well they couldn’t change every copy of information could they? Humans, no. AI, quite probably.

In all seriousness, I’m aware of how far it could go. I just hope there’s enough humanity left in the world that it doesn’t.

More like “subscribe in” so they can slowly but continually raise prices, continue to price out the consumer market, and ultimately decide who gets access.

Said something mean about oligarchs? Tried to sue one of their buddies? Promoted pro-worker ideals on social media? No computing for you, or maybe they hit just you with additional punitive hidden fees.

Blocking ad blockers is small potatoes for them. They’re going for the jugular.

Don’t forget about the personalized propaganda advertising! When the whole populous hits the same API endpoint, you get recon, generation, and delivery all through the same platform. Very resource-efficient.

Its almost like governments can step in and limit the amount a single entity or company is allowed to buy, or make things cheaper/more expensive for certain customers via subsidy.

The US government has totally never done things like this to help turn a profit for oil execs.

They can, but they shouldn’t. The AI boom won’t last forever. The RAM, CPU, GPU manufacturers should get the maximum value now to increase manufacturing capacity. It will be needed later for other things.

For example, the crypto mining boom first caused shortages in the GPU market, but the following generation was a really good value. 3080s still sold out, but now it was to gamers. Without the crypto boom, the manufacturers wouldn’t have increased the capacity as much and fewer GPUs would been sold to gamers in the next generation

We also welded a speaker to an iPad. You know, the thing famous for being mobile. We don’t think it should be mobile anymore. You’ll like it…or else…"
