Reminder that the reason French police are not rioting over pension changes is because their pensions are explicitly exempted from the change. ACAB

I don’t envy French voters, who will be forced to choose between Macron’s successor and Front National in the next election.

Because presently it seems like Macron, the police, and young French muslims are cooperating in a concerted attempt to enflame the situation and help get Front National elected. And all while Europe is defacto at war, facing an existential threat in Ukraine.

Lucky that Macron can’t run again, but it’d be nice if he didn’t run a key NATO member into the ground while blaming it all on video games.

It’s only failing due to outside support, if that gets mangled Ukraine doesn’t have the resources to continue to fight in the manner it currently is.

And just summing it up as ‘failing attack’ really downplays the hard fucking work Ukraine’s fighters are putting in to keep Russia at bay.

In today’s world Russia’s failure to turn up for a conventional war doesn’t really display their true prowess, propaganda and cyber warfare. If the war in Ukraine no longer requires the resources be drawn away from those then they’re back to full steam manipulation which means a far right wave across Europe, so yes Russia is still an existential threat to Europe.

Part of that outside support is Europe, the other part of that support is actually obligated to provide active support.

A lot of Europe is way way further away than in Ukraine to Russia which is going to create many many new logistic problems.

Far right wave across Europe is something really bad but unfortunately Europe (and the US) is very much capable of affecting one on it’s own. Plus while it’s bad it’s not an existential threat.

As an example of Russia’s threat I would like to point out that a lot of the online divisiveness that allowed Trump to win in 2016 just doesn’t exist right now, so I imagine it’s currently even better in Europe. I think without Russia, a right wing wave isn’t possible.

And I’m not sure how you don’t think a right wing wave is an existential threat given the conditions of our planet right now, right wing governments will just exasperate exacerbate an already severe problem. (I recognize neoliberalism isn’t doing anything to fix the problems but at least it isn’t trying to make them worse.

It unfortunately is. The right will also come back in the US after a cycle or so. Russia might be funding some candidates and doing some psyops but they cannot actually make people vote for guys like Trump, or the guys in Poland or Brexit if there is not already a liking for those ideas in US and EU. The toning down in the US in my opinion has more to do with them realizing that they didn’t get all that retarded Qanon shit out of Trump and in fact those that believed they could overthrow the US government are going to get some consequences. They feel defeated.

I disagree, neoliberalism is the ideology that causes the global warming problem. Capitalism in general. The rabid racists do not actually care about it but they oppose it because the left supports it. The EU by the way has always been quite neoliberal and certainly does not need Russian influence to put profits above doing everything that needs to be done. After all it’s going to cost a lot of money to do it properly.

It’s behind a paywall for me. I’m going to go out on a limb and suggest that calling the rioters “vermin” isn’t exactly going to calm the situation.
