Happy Thanksgiving nerds!
Several months ago we got a “sneak peek” at Android desktop mode. Since then it’s been completely silent. I am on a Pixel 7 which doesn’t have DP Alt mode. But I anxiously await the day I can use a single device for all my computing needs (other than my server).
Is anyone using this or has used it recently, in the last month or so? What are your impressions?
I mean. Google literally just announced their new Aluminum OS. Like. 2-3 days ago I saw an article about it. Let me find it.
I see some suggestions on Reddit that it might be useable on phones. Nothing about that in the article so far as I read.
- They didn’t announce anything. It was leaked from their code.
- That’s desktop, not mobile
- The only thing we know about it is that it exists and is under development.
And that they are cramming Gemini into every corner of it
Doesn’t sound much different from Android 😅
I tried desktop mode once back in September on my pixel 8 running GrapheneOS, there has been a large update (Android 16 QRP1) on graphene a week ago so it might have improved, but back then it was still pretty bad, been 2 months plus graphene isn’t 1:1 with official Google releases for pixel so I is might be much better now.
