recent: tears of the kingdom, or as i like to call it botw 1.2, its the same thing all over again just with one or two added gimicks, the open world is dead, npcs are boring and nintendo just got away with it like that

not so recent: i cant stand persona 5, joker and his entourage are annoying teenagers, the time management is a horrible gameplay addition and the artstyle is just a visual overstimulation

with that being said,~~ plz dont kill me~~

Breath of the wild. As an avod Zelda fun I really really tried to like it but just can’t do it.

Same. People like to call it a groundbreaking open world game when its exactly like all the others: a big world filled with the same few activities copy pasted over and over.

It just doesn’t feel as hand crafted as the older games. There’s a current push and pull between “exploratoration/discovery” driven open world games vs “content bloat, sensory overload” open world games, but so few developers seem to be asking “should this be an open world game at all?”

Yeah me too. I don’t know if the new one is any better but BotW just wasn’t very fun, but I’m also not the biggest fan of these sorts of super “empty” explory games.

I love them both, but I think if you didn’t like BotW, you won’t like TotK either, unless you really, really love kind of game-breaky tinkering mechanics enough to overlook everything you disliked about BotW (unlikely).
