Elemental just doesn’t look like a Pixar movie to me. It looks kinda like a lower budget animated movie. I’ve heard that the movie looks nice when you actually watch it, but I don’t think it shows well in trailers. I’m guessing that could be a reason for the low box office results.

the premise doesn’t help, i think. i know it’s not that weird in the context of previous Pixar movies but as applied here it just comes off as clunky like Zootopia did with its allegory—and Zootopia is almost certainly a better movie than this will be.
Yeah, to me the little anthropomorphic blobs feel like rehashes of the characters from Inside Out, with a dash of the spirits/ghosts from Soul, but the premise of Elemental isn’t anywhere near as interesting as those other two.
I really need people to stop doing racism metaphors where the different races are literally objectively physically different and inherently destructive.
Like, this is just the X-Men thing again! I get what you’re going for, but the civil rights metaphor breaks down when the African American stand-in minority are effectively walking IEDs that semi-frequently kill dozens of people just by coming into their powers.
Bad race metaphors are worse than no race metaphors
