One of my favorite movies to throw on after a busy or taxing day is the movie “Hearts Beat Loud” (IMDB, Trailer), a low-stakes film about a father and daughter who occasionally jam together and unexpectedly have a popular song in the summer before the daughter leaves for college.
Can anyone suggest some similarly low-stakes, slice-of-live style movies?
Before sunrise?
I think Chef (2014) would fit into that category.
And a fun added bonus is, Favreau’s training with chef Roy Choi in preparation for the film inspired the Netlix show, The Chef Show.
Boiling Point.
It’s about a single shift in a restaurant and it’s all one shot. I thoroughly recommend it.
Kikukiro (1999) a road movie that captures the summer feeling.
You may have heard of the main theme somewhere else before, as I think it is more well known than the movie itself.
Tampopo (1985) a movie about the people who run a Ramen shop, and other weird and wacky characters.
“Like the French comedies of Jacques Tati, it’s a bemused meditation on human nature in which one humorous situation flows into another offhandedly, as if life were a series of smiles.” Roger Ebert
I liked Hearts Beat Loud. Here are some recommendation that I think fits in the genre:
It has been a while since I saw 20th Century Women, but it was recommended in a list of slice of life movie. Our Little Sister is in Japanese. There is something heartwarming about the story and the everyday life of the characters. Only Yesterday is an animated movie by Studio Ghibli.
