At least you got something out of it hahahah
I’m very glad to read that some people enjoyed it hahaha. The opium part hits hard, to be honest
The magic system was great, and I really enjoyed the linguistics parts. However, the characters felt incredibly boring, bland, kinda stupid at times… For a world with magic, it felt just like ours, and in fact magic changes nothing in its history compared to ours.
The footnotes were the cherry on top of my dislike, turning it into loathe. I don’t like being told what to think and how to interpret things.
I felt that Kuang was breathing down my nape, silently watching me to make sure I got the point of that slavery, capitalism and colonialism are bad.

Yes!
I disliked Poppy War too, but Babel sounded just like the kind of book I’d love. Now I’ve decided I won’t read more stuff from Kuang in a while, she’s not for me, at least right now.
THAT’S IT. That’s how I feel hahahha. Also the characters, good God, they were like flour.
Yes but as I mentioned in the post, I kept expecting it to improve, as the reviews said. Being honest, I didn’t dislike the very end, but the rest…
I did like the magic system, and in fact it was what drew me to the book at first.
Sadly, I found the characters bland and annoying. The footnotes were the cherry on top, as I feel they were extremely condescendent.
I’m very glad to hear that you enjoyed it tho! That’s what books are for!
I noticed after a couple of minutes hahah
They have a desktop for Linux??? I’ve been using it for years and I only get to learn this now! I’m going to try it immediately lmao. Thank you!!
I did not know about the different instances, will definitely check them up! Thank you
Maybe this sub could make the suggestion in another post? I know I can’t organise this, but maybe someone can
I LOOOOVE PIRANESI
I got it without having even read the blurb and daaaamn. I was absolutely hooked.
The Way of Kings is indeed big, but the writing style is not complex and the story is (for me) easy to follow. Lots of names, tho, which can get confusing.
Even better, the Stormlight Archive can be read without having read the other Sanderson books. Yeah there are some references to others but the experience won’t tarnish if you don’t read them.
TWOK is my favourite book, and the only one I own that I bought signed because all it meant to me
I tried Bookwyrm but I wasn’t a fan of the review style. I like that in TSG you have a checklist with moods that give you an overview of the feelings the book may evoke. So giving my opinion is fast and painless, if I don’t feel like writing a whole review
I’ve read them too and first one was amazing, second one was good but repetitive. Third one I finished but didn’t like. The story gets repeated over and over
I didn’t know about this page! Thank you very much!
